Yes!!! And I think it's good actually to embrace that dream as "who we really are" and label all the horrific shit this country has done as NOT who we really are

We can acknowledge the evil while also being like "and fuck that shit, that's not our America"

this is exactly why i’ve started calling myself a “public school democrat.” they took me to independence hall on a field trip in elementary school, and i latched on to the soaring, righteous propaganda, hook, line, and sinker. i bought the hype, and the imperative to make it real

The press consensus seems to be that it was lady history & therefore wasn't worth that much anyway
part of me still can't believe the East Wing was completely destroyed and there have been no negative consequences or reports on whether items inside were properly archived or not

People compare American actions to the Taliban instead of the Puritans, or Nazis instead of antebellum racists, to rhetorically argue that this is not who we are

Yes, it is important to know our own history. Maybe righteous rage is more useful than a somber self-crit session right now

to expand on this a little, i am shocked by how many “guy collectors” epstein had. without someone funneling girls, scientists, bankers, etc… to him, he had no power. his plan worked because he had eager co-conspirators at every step of the process
Been thinking a bit about the way that John Brockman acted as Epstein's scientist collector and would organize dinners where Epstein would just happen to show up and I think a lesson here for *white scientists* is if you're being invited to all-white events, that might be actively intentional 🧪

on the flip side of this, i can now estimate the driving time between any two points in massachusetts down to the minute, for any given set of starting conditions. i drove from worcester to BOS to drop family off, and arrived on the dot that i had called before we got in the car
I’ve told this story before but my mom and I were once driving to the science museum and missed our exit and ended up on a forty minute detour trying to turn around and gave up on the whole trip

my dad is the only person in the family who can drive in Boston
It’s easier to just go home I’ve canceled plans from a wrong left turn

this is bean dad levels of “good luck, kid”-style parenting. i would have just assumed my parents hated me, but just didn’t have the balls to say it to my face
i think i’ve told *this* story before but when i was learning to drive, once i’d gotten the basics of moving the car down, my mother drove me into downtown boston and told me simply to “drive home”

The circumstances are unique in each case, but I think it's going to be hard for smart, ambitious, left-leaning politicians to look at Mamdani in NYC and Mejia in NJ-11 and NOT conclude "ah, what the hell, I'm in." Just pray for my sake that it happens in Nassau County too.
Pretty big deal in Los Angeles as Nithya Raman jumps into the mayor's race at the deadline. She's one to watch. Good to see some actual competition in our typically top-down local politics.

this is one of those decisions that's going to go mostly unnoticed by the broader population today, probably, but is absolutely going to get a couple of chapters in books about This Era a hundred years from now, and knowing that is making me have a mental breakdown lmao
BREAKING: A 5th Circuit panel has backed ICE's mass detention policy, a decision that clears the way for the administration to lock up people who are in immigration proceedings

It's a 2-1 ruling
Majority: Jones (Reagan), Duncan (Trump)
Minority: Douglas (Obama)

One fucking misperceived comment by Bush Sr led Saddam Hussein to think we wouldn't intervene if he invaded Kuwait. We all know how that turned out

That's why EVERY PUBLIC COMMENT ON FOREIGN POLICY IS CAREFULLY VETTED AND THE ADMIN SPEAKS WITH ONE VOICE

missed the airport exit? since you aren’t going to catch your flight anyway, consider a relaxing time in Revere. it’s got a beach and some other stuff, but none of that matters since that’s the only place you can get to past the BOS exit.

coming up with a new idea called "driving like shit olympics". no more bland, unprovable statements like "california drivers are the WORST" allowed. whichever state wins every 4 years gets a moonshot-sized public transit investment to get those fuckers off the road

we have been turned completely inside out and it is as intentional as it is an accident by these morons. Amongst whatever incoherent theories they have in policy and governance, “it’s not treason if we’re feeding actionable classified intel to foreign actors by ‘accident’” is undoubtedly one of them
