I've replied to so many of the sub-posts, it feels rude not to R/S James' v good point
I think a side point here is that many politico's are so addicted to Twitter they simply can't imagine not using it - and any other platform with better norms seems impossible for them (see Ian Leslies comments here the other day)
The government minister says she believes in using X "because of freedom of speech". (There are many platforms - 4chan, Stormfront - which it does not use).

What is most striking to me is the lack of any fight back at any level in America. Lots of quote tweets to this from Americans saying yes, our government is evil and stupid. But nobody is prepared to fight them over it. Complete surrender. A nation of cowards in all senses.
It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

Not even the prompts. If you are a Twitter user in the UK and Twitter sticks a Grok CSAM image in your feed for WHATEVER reason, well congrats your device just downloaded child porn. And you are legally responsible for that.
Even if nobody wants to take action against Musk for building a CSAM generator, there are people using it who are based in the UK and those prompts are absolutely something that would get you on the sex offender's register. Absolutely no justification not to try to identify and prosecute users.
