This is absolutely devastating news to wake up to in the middle of the night.

More to say, but may God grant the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. eternal rest.

This is a bombshell: One of Epstein's victims accused Trump of sexually and violently assaulting her when she was "13 to 15" and the FBI deemed her credible enough to warrant an interview.
FBI Interviewed Trump Accuser, Epstein Files Show
Trump was credibly accused of sexual assault in the Epstein files. It's unclear what became of the DOJ's investigation.

Reminder that no coherent theology proposes that straight women can get ordained as priests or pastors but queer women married to other women cannot.

It’s a theological position that makes literally no sense

"The version of Christianity that Trump's most devout supporters embrace (and he pretends to) has no room for Christ’s actual teachings. Anyone who references Jesus’s declarations to aid the sick, poor, and vulnerable is quickly labeled a socialist and/or antifa."
Trump is clowning his evangelical base
He's not even bothering to pretend anymore.

David and I are quite far apart theologically, but this essay was deeply thoughtful and engaging and intellectually compelling.

I must say, though I’ve known my friend David to be one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met, this is particularly well written.
New Substack article:

My response to Una Caro, the Vatican's doctrinal note in praise of monogamy and against polyamory.

I don't expect to convince many Catholics, but I do hope mainline Protestants seize the opportunity to rethink their sexual ethics.

I was corrected today by a close friend about wishing for It to Happen.

Jesus stood up to Herod Antipas, and denounced him as a “fox” but he never wished him death. He kept going with his ministry.

AOC did…. Fine in Munich. She’ll need to have way better foreign policy appearances than that if she wants to be the nominee
I don’t think AOC is all that likely to win a D primary, especially if Harris runs, but 1) it’s not impossible and 2) she’ll be on the VP shortlist for almost every candidate regardless

yeah. this is the problem with left wing populist analysis. AOC hits this less hard than Sanders in general, but it's still inaccurate.

far right doesn't care about wealth inequality. they are upset that "elites"—ie marginalized people—are gaining status and supposedly ruling over them. 1
That is not what right-wing populists say! They blame various out groups for lots of things, but "wealth inequality" is not one of them because they don't care about that, it is not what's driving them, and it is not what they are claiming to solve. That's your issue. People can have other concerns.
We can't fall into right-wing populism’s lie that the most vulnerable in society are to blame for wealth inequality in our countries. We need to build movements that tell the truth: the story of wealth inequality is not a cultural one, but a class one.

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage.

The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.”

It’s about control.

Well Nancy, our brief alliance when you were getting rid of Biden was nice while it lasted.
Nancy Pelosi is retiring from Congress, but she has more campaigns in mind. Among them: Boost Gavin Newsom as a potential contender for the White House in 2028.

Every major world religion has this as a core tenant of its belief system. Every single one. It’s amazing how universal this concept is and how this administration is trying to make us completely abandon it
This city is home to people of countless faiths. But no matter what you believe, one thing unites us: we are all New Yorkers. We will not allow ICE to terrorize our neighbors.

Watching the 2004 debates and it’s wild how well Kerry did in all three lol. Dude was prepared and was a very good debater. Bush seems desperate and was only passionate about Iraq and the War on Terror.

I’m just marveling that this race wasn’t a comfortable Kerry victory

“AOC is not pro apartheid genocide state”’ is one hell of a line to go with with 2028 democratic primary voters
In case you were wondering what one of the major lines of attack on AOC will be in 2028, it won't be about Taiwan or populism but about her belief that Israel isn't entitled to free and unlimited military assistance from the US

Liberalism was largely a successful international strategy. The fact that France Germany and Italy are close allies of each other, that the EU exists, and that millions of people in most European countries (with the horrific exception of Ukraine) are not at risk of dying in battle is a good thing.
People should not be surprised that someone like AOC talks about the international liberal order. After all, a progressive Democrat from New York helped build the postwar liberal order.
