It seems like the through line here is that people really struggle to understand state collapse as anything other than a kind of collective moral failing because if it can happen for other reasons that would have troubling implications for their project of crippling the state.

It's my honest opinion the fact the Emperor is an evil space wizard improves the show instead of being detrimental to it. It gives those scenes where Imperial characters like Partagaz pontificate about order and security an absurd quality that reinforce its anti-fascist themes.
