the thing about how people think about politicians is weird because politicians are mostly not living in hyperreality, especially on the Democratic side. is it true that the battle for America is in fact in hyperreality?yes, but it’s hard to blame them for not adjusting to that when it’s work for them

Well okay then. I was wondering if/when any of this would actually start happening. At least somebody is putting their money and effort where their mouth is. And we'll see what happens! I keep an open mind.
Indivisible in an email tonight, starting project to primary Senate capitulators:

"At some point, you gotta either change your leaders’ minds or you gotta change your leaders. And the time for changing minds is over."

I literally did not know I got tomorrow off. Or had forgotten. Probably this happens to me every November. I'm still in shock.

Everyone's been furious already about this and I have nothing to add. Except that every time I see Angus King I think "Jean and Scotty never have to worry."
Sen. Angus King: "Standing up to Donald Trump didn't work"

I mean we have ALL said that and all been dead serious! It’s not even a controversial opinion, really. It’s just…not a thing you can do if you’re planning on keeping this constitution at all. So what are we doing here? Come on.
Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

this mostly seems right, yeah. I don't really agree with the "dog" thing but follow your heart.
I have thoughts, and they aren’t going to fit neatly into Bluesky posts. Briefly:

1. The deal sucks.
2. Probably not as much as you think it does.
3. It’s good to be mad.
4. FFS, be madder at the GOP.
5. Strategy is hard.
5b. Timing matters.
6. The fight isn’t over.
7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)

Okay can we all go nuts about THIS now? It’s way more fun.
Here we go

Oh please let him do this. Hell, let him do it today! He likes headlines, right? This is a day we'd like him to HAVE some headlines.

Evergreen. This happens to me every few months.
You all have totally lost me on this one to the point where I'm starting to wonder if it is a Me Problem

Am I the only one who, as a midwesterner, feels a bit salty about all this? Oh you like the Edmund Fitzgerald? Name three of its albums. We grew up with this story and now it’s this huge thing!
The Edmund Fitzgerald is one of Michigan's original rock stars.

Why do Dems hate canceling Thanksgiving? It’s win/win.
Democrats could have had "Trump cancelled Thanksgiving" and instead decided to lose.

I don't know of the specifics of this decision (which was really a bunch of separate decisions) but yes, this captures a very important tension that's existed all year. And resolving that tension isn't as simple as people on either side of the question might think.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous
November 10, 2025 at 1:41 PM
Yeah I mean this is all you really can say. It’s all grotesque and insane but the Trump GOP is getting to the point where they CAN’T win anything. Even if they get what they want it makes things worse for them! We’re all hostages to it but nevertheless. They’re kind of screwed!
Trump and the GOP aren't getting more popular, they have a habit of fucking up any "win" they get, and they're increasingly just idiots relying on brute forcing their ways through problems. And while some elected Democrats may be yielding, Democratic voters are not. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

It is indeed fascinating how here on the Gender Website many people are very certain that all that matters in the end is being "tough" and "fighting" and not "caving" like a "[gendered insult]."
Lots of people are just eager to demonstrate how blithely they'd murder people through neglect, were they making the decisions.
November 10, 2025 at 1:54 AM
And if said this to anyone literally anywhere else they'd be like "of course, duh. Who remembers stuff like that? I'm bored already." But HERE? Good lord. It is all remembered until the end of time.
Very, very few people are going to remember this fight in a year’s time and it will play almost no role whatsoever in any primary campaign from 2028 on; it is doubtful it matters in 2026 either

This is deeply true and deeply distorts the way so many people look at the present.
It is genuinely hard for most people to grasp how poor the past was.

I cannot aspire to the heights of contrarianism that would allow me to talk about Nirvana like this. (Though people did it all the time while they were active!) But I absolutely agree that "Superunknown" holds up as well as any record from those years, and that Soundgarden is deserving.
soundgarden should’ve been in the hall of fame long before pearl jam or that talentless self-important garden gnome who fronted nirvana, but man, get brandi carlisle’s shitty country ass tf out

Heh you can tell who's never worked in retail by who's sharing this as a grotesque and dystopian-sounding policy, rather than the normal (laughable) guidance corporate retail people ALWAYS get from management. "We're going to be the FRIENDLIEST store in the world and that's how we will WIN!"

Yes the Roberts majority has destroyed SCOTUS’s legitimacy, yes Trump shoulda never gone to SCOTUS asking to starve people, but in the world we live in KBJ did the best she could to control the process and let CA1 put its reasoning on the record before her colleagues disregard it without explanation
KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.

I was just about to ask whether anyone even understands the rationale here. Like, what principle is being defended here, and to what end? Is this really just "you can't make us"?
WILL THE SUPREME COURT AGREE THAT IT WOULD IRREVOCABLY INJURE THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENCY AND ARTICLE II OF THE CONSTITUTION TO INSIST THAT PROMISED MONEY BE MADE AVAILABLE TO STARVING CHILDREN

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Yeah and it's honestly pretty disgraceful that these kinds of unsourced insinuations and rumors can have a real effect in our politics. I think EVERYONE should be reposting this just to set frivolous people straight.
sure hope the rumors coming out of the GOP House caucus about the horrors in the Epstein files aren't true. that would sure be bad for big don
