As a guy who detests ai more than almost everyone I know IRL, but less than the average bsky user: I do think some of the "is ai intelligent?" Discourse is approaching "can a submarine swim?" territory

What I mean by "hype being true" is that the models actually *are* able to replace millions of workers - which is the core economic promise that tech oligarchs are making.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

This is preying on my mind a bit. Jeffrey Epstein was not primarily a British scandal! So far we've removed a Prince from the Royal family, fired our US ambassador who was one of the most important political figures of the last few decades and banned the CEO of Barclays from the financial industry..
One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.
Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

THIS! We’re talking about Liam because he was in the news and we know enough to be able to talk about him, but we also hope to use his story to help raise awareness of all 3800+ kids who have been detained by ICE during this presidential administration. They all deserve love, care, and liberty.
I think important to state for the record that Liam Ramos is a kiddo who is both a person and representative of every other kiddo who is at risk/detained no matter how old they are or how cute or small or "innocent" bc like some kids get into trouble. I got into trouble. we stand up for them all

The thing where ICE parks masked men in school lots is something I would not have believed unless I saw it with my own two eyes. They do it constantly. It’s purely a terror tactic and they’ve done it to schools over the region. Our schools are collapsing - often at 50% attendance or less.
Columbia Heights (Liam's school district) cancelled school today because of a credible bomb threat at Liam's elementary and multiple ICE vehicles parking in the high school staff parking lot at 6:15am.

The ending really strains credulity even in a movie with a semi-magical relation to reality, but the delivery on "the rest is silence" devastated me
Saw Hamnet. Solid film. I cried but not nearly as much as I thought I would. I think I got my expectations unreasonably high, because I walked out a bit underwhelmed overall.
The film is beautiful, and Jessie Buckley is amazing. Excellent Best Actress candidate
