As the parent of a trans son in a Red State, I feel hopeless a lot of the time. My goal is to do one thing every day. More if I can, but at least that one thing.

#booksky #bookqw word: GIRL

The men of the Smith family are fairy-smiths. The women are midwives. It's all earth-witching one way or another, with the same combination of arcane knowledge, social work and wishing more of your neighbours used the sense God gave them.

Weird how an extremely corrupt administration says all of the programs that help working class people are corrupt
Brooke Rollins calls food stamps "a broken and corrupt program" and says, "guess what? There's a new sheriff in town. His name is Donald Trump."

It gets crazier. Source in Maryland Gov Wes Moore's admin tells me they informed Trump officials that the ailing counties were in Appalachia, and the Trump people were surprised to hear this!

(Supports @jamellebouie.net's point about MAGA's Balkanized vision of US)

Really happy to see folks in the SF/F community here stepping up and donating to food banks and organizations that feed people. This is @adapalmer.bsky.social's doing, and it's making a difference. You can donate too, even if you're not on the Bluesky SF/F community. Need is everywhere.

“Let them go a month without meals. Maybe they will get a job”

First, many SNAP recipients have jobs. They’re just living below the poverty line because of tremendous wealth inequality.

Second, many are disabled and children and can’t work.

Third, no one should starve to death.

It costs ~$70 to produce a year’s supply of insulin.

Yet, the average annual cost of insulin went from $2,864 in 2012 to $5,705 in 2016 to $18,000 in 2025. A 25,714% markup. That isn’t inflation or supply chain—It’s corporate greed.

Now—California will sell insulin for $11. Make this nationwide!

I just saw a headline: "Hack of age verification firm exposes user information" and that's A HUGE PROBLEM. This is why age verification isn't doing what you think it is. It's creating databases that child predators will actively go after.
