Watch this, it's astonishing.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

This is how we’re going to defeat fascism. Mass nonviolent civil resistance works.
BREAKING Greg Bovino has been removed as Border Patrol "commander at large" and will return to El Centro Calif, where he is expected to retire soon. A stunning turnaround after Pretti killing. Bovino's traveling blue city crackdown is over www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

It is pleasing to think of Bovino picking just the right outfit (off-duty fash/golfcourse Gestapo) for the first visit to his retirement office in the Christmas Adventurers Clubhouse.

One thing that shows you how bad ICE’s tactics are — ACTUAL cops are among the most vocal and biting in criticizing them.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara: "People have had enough. This is the third shooting in less than 3 weeks. The MPD went the entire year last year recovering about 900 guns from the street, arresting hundreds of violent offenders, and we didn't shoot anyone ... this is not sustainable."

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

For me, it's the agent (hand on his gun, poised to shoot an innocent person) arguing "you don't even know her." Because isn't that just it? The fundamental difference between good and evil, right there. These agents speak so honestly when they're frustrated (and they're always frustrated).
Watch this video. As a short film it's got the heart attack urgency of DOG DAY AFTERNOON. But as a record of this awful moment, it captures so much: the absurdity, cruelty and horror -- but also the compassion and humanity, and the essential brave resistance I can only hope will see us through this.
