One of the reasons i love tolkien is the theme that despair is an enemy

I said it elsewhere, but it’s weirdly exhilarating and addictive to be terrified all the time, and the people addicted to it, when they say this, may as well be saying “I can stop at any time, it’s just the world doing this *to* me.”

AI isn't the first tech to atrophy people's intellectual agility, reducing my online time has definitely rescued not just attention span but my relationship to written language, reading and writing, after ending the 280 character asphyxiation of thought that is the reality of social media overuse.

I hate to praise Britain for much these days, but taking firearms away from rich nonces could in fact turn out to be a popular idea in more than just one English speaking country if it ever catches on.

This is my first Christmas since finally managing to stomp out the last inadvisable embers of love that I still held for my genetic family. Huge relief to confirm I truly don't miss them at all; I've got a proper family now. Homemade, hand-made, superior, actually worth spending the holidays with. 🎁

I don't know why but a lot of the "proud European" internet users have a massive inferiority complex when it comes to interacting with (people they think are) Americans
One thing I've noticed in, say, /r/polandball was how the American posters were all like "yeah, our country's racist and that sucks" while the European posters were all like "<insert ziganophobic screed here>" without batting an eyelash
