I’m sad and I’m furious. The Senate voted to reopen without securing healthcare protections. Millions still stand to lose coverage.
The fight shifts to the House now. There are cracks. Pressure matters. If you’re in a GOP district, call your Rep.

If you’ve got a Senate Democrat who is not calling for new leadership, they’re part of the problem.
We should no longer trust Senate Dems who decline to come out against the leadership that led us here. Until proven otherwise, we should assume they were in on the game to fool their own supporters.

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.
We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party

Heads up, there are a lot of accounts, jumping on this moment, telling people to leave the Democratic Party not to protest to just let fascism take over. Don’t engage just press not interested and block them if it’s really bad.

Call your Senators and tell them to kick Schumer to the curb. This is a good thread on the mechanisms at play.
Some folks are calling for Schumer's removal as Democratic Leader. Senate Democratic caucus rules, which hasn't changed since 2017, don't appear to allow removal, don't appear to allow no confidence votes, and generally contemplate elections only at congress's start or when vacancies occur. BUT...

I just shared Daniel's newsletter. Now read this thread to see what's really going on behind the theater on the end of the shutdown.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

I don’t care if Schumer voted no. If he’s unable to wrangle the caucus, he’s not an effective leader. I’ll continue to push for the caucus to elect a new one.

These are the senators at risk of caving.
Please call them - especially if you live in their state. Please tell them to not cave until you get guarantees on healthcare. (Not just empty promises from Rs)
What was the point in all this if Dems cave now without any guarantees?

Okay, folks, hold tight.
About to record a video explaining what happens next procedurally. This is NOT over.
And now we have a non-speculative list because we just saw the first vote.
Give me a few minutes and I'll have a clear explanation out for all of you.

I had two moments happen in the past week that helped me regain clarity on my author successes and efforts. Because publishing makes it really easy to feel in a void. Short thread:
1) For a proposal, @ericsmithrocks.bsky.social had me gather my career milestones/praise. It was eye opening to review

I like Tim Kaine but this is the weakest fucking logic. There is zero chance they 60 votes to extend the tax credits.
The vote has not happened yet. Call your senators NOW and tell them this is horse shit. Use @5calls.org or @resist.bot if needed.

Kaine (D-VA) supports the deal
“This deal guarantees a vote to extend ACA premium tax credits, which Republicans weren’t willing to do. Lawmakers know their constituents expect them to vote for it, and if they don’t, they could very well be replaced at the ballot box by someone who will.”

I've looked at all the details of this deal to end the shutdown reached by a small group of Senate Democrats. I've talked to a number of friends on the Hill to see if there's anything I'm missing. Sadly, I am not.
This is a shit deal. It's a betrayal. It's cowardice.

There ARE some good things in the compromise. All the stuff about back pay and RIFs is going to anger TFG and goes against their push to strip government workers.
But still, "promise of a doomed vote" is just Lucy pulling the football away again. It's so stupid.
