I remember six years ago when a cardiothoracic surgeon Tweeted that getting COVID does the same damage to your body as 5-10 years of pack-a-day smoking. And that was very early on before we knew about all of the other damage COVID does to our bodies and before we could study repeat infections.
Sorry, re-posting because I accidentally mentioned the wrong stat. If your kid starts smoking in front of you and smokes their whole life, they have *15%* of developing lung cancer. If an adult gets three covid infections - just three - their risk of developing Long Covid is up to 40%
“The take-home message from this study is clear: long COVID is here to stay, even in children, & can be exacerbated by reinfections and sustained by high viral circulation. …Without decisive action, the long-term societal cost of long COVID will continue to rise.”

“We can’t eliminate SARS.”

We can, and we did.

“Well poor countries can’t do it.”

Poor countries eliminate bad diseases all the time, with some outside help in the past. Yeah. Even airborne ones.

The only reason we have COVID-19 circulating is because rich countries said so.

Imagine if you tried to get ethics approval for a study randomizing the placement of smoke detectors in schools.

This is EXACTLY what we are doing with these ridiculous randomized trials of air purifiers.

Stop it. Just STOP.

Good analogy.

It's quite something when medical doctors believe that the laws of physics need to exposed to randomized trial. (No, we prove them.)

All these experiments have already been done anyway and the optimal placement has been found via simulations.

This fact *alone* demonstrates the utility of masking (and social distancing,) and that the main utility of the vaccines is to protect hospitals, not humans.

It should be taken seriously as an indicator of high psychopathy.

Empathy is on a spectrum - enjoying terrorising animals is taken as red flag for APD, so why do we treat hunting differently?
Fox hunting is a revolting sport. It's only survived in any form because it's done by ghastly, entitled, influential and aristocratic people who feel it's the God given right to charge about the place in silly costumes tearing animals apart for no good reason.

When illness felled me and ended my medical career, when I moved to the "other end of the stethoscope" as they say, I realized so many things. The unimaginable value in knowing you've been heard, chief among them. I so wish I could practice again, knowing what I live every day.

A Medical must-read⬇️
“I must sound so ungrateful,” a father said. Where patients usually say “thank you," he said: help me understand why no one listens to us? The “ungrateful” patient taught me: Patients don’t owe us gratitude. We owe them the truth. And the willingness to listen.
