I see some other people doing ongoing threads of stuff they listen to or have read; seems like a good thing, share knowledge of good stuff and enjoyment of what’s out there. Here’s something I’ve just finished:

This is one helluva factcheck from the wonderful Emma Monk.

It's 26 posts, but stick with it because it contains all the key features of how the far right spread their poison in the UK, exemplifying the role played by our far right legacy media (esp the Express & Mail).

Knowledge is power.
I was tagged and asked to take a look at this claim - cos, well just look at it!🙄

Does it seem plausible that THE Trocadero is going to be turned into a Mosque?

It was pretty easy to debunk but I decided to do a deep dive into the reality AND the appalling press coverage

Bitcoin now consuming as much energy as the entire country of Pakistan.

That seems bad.
The people at CBECI were kind enough to send me a copy of their updated Bitcoin power consumption data

At the end of 2024, Bitcoin's total consumption for 2024 *did* end up matching that of Pakistan. 2024 saw the biggest jump in power consumption ever. Absolutely wild stuff ->

Thousands of people are marching outside the #COP30 summit in Brazil, calling for urgent action on the climate crisis and human rights. 🌎✊

It is the first time since 2021 that protestors have been allowed to demonstrate outside the climate talks.

That Mahmoud finds Noem an inspiration speaks not just to her moral squalor but to terrible political instincts, given how deeply unpopular the latter is in her own country.
It appears that our Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has been inspired by Kirsti Noem - and finds her to have an “under appreciated intellect and eye for detail” and is now following her lead.

Isn’t that just utterly horrifying.

Of all Starmer’s picks for cabinet, she has to be the worst.

Thank you to the two wonderful drumming groups who made it so much fun. (Sadly I can't post video.) Thanks also to @oxfordgreenparty.bsky.social for your lovely Union Jill flag #Oxford #SUTR

The configuration where people choose and register a persistent pseudonym as their username is the system under which people behave least abusively to others. Pure anonymity with no persistent pseudonyms usually shakes out as slightly less abusive than "real names", even.

Okay, I can't let this one go. I live in Ireland, not the UK, but the use of this image by a supposedly socialist party is so stupid and offensive, I'm going to get stuck in.

Let me explain to you why any experienced illustrator/designer could have stopped you making so many miserable mistakes. 1/

This is so sad. Among many other things, Rachel was a great champion for graphic novel coverage in national newspapers.
“In all of this, of course, she was a newspaper’s dream."

Remembering Rachel Cooke (1969-2025). The Observer journalist was the heart and soul of the paper for 25 years. She leaves an extraordinary legacy.

- temporary break from work and responsibilities as you convalesce
- badass scar
- you grow your own organ back, that’s kinda cool
- good karma
- you save my life

As seen via @oxfordclarion.bsky.social - an interesting article on student magazine Cherwell which I wouldn’t otherwise have been likely to spot. Oxf Uni is rather pompously putting on talks about free speech and how students need to improve theirs. www.cherwell.org/2025/11/13/t...

Dunno if it counts as 'woke' as such but my opinion is that we must STOP 'doing more with less' and START 'doing more with more' (or possibly 'doing less with more' in the interim, to catch up).
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

People who think Britain was better 50 years ago either have no adult memories of Britain 50 years ago or are confabulating a fantasy version of their teens and twenties. Yes, we all wish we were younger.
Absolute nonsense. Anyone who lived through the period, or who has studied the period, will know how daft, how dangerously silly, this kind of rot is. If I may, I was there. It was FAR more grey, tough, poor, bigoted, boring, terrifying, violent & frequently flat-out insane than nostalgia insists.
