Employment law, Hillsborough Law, environmental action, housebuilding has anything Starmer's govt promised not been watered down or amended out of meaningful existance?

We will still put up our breaking news and investigations for nothing on the free news site, but we also have to find a way to pay our journalists now that advertising is broken by Google/Facebook etc

So much of Bluesky can be explained by it having one population whose primary mode of interaction is jokes and another population who have taken a vow against ever getting a joke.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, #GMB has replaced the Daily Mail & GB News mouthpiece, Andrew Pierce, with the virulent Daily Mail columnist Sarah Vine.

NEW from @tbij.bsky.social:
The government has rejected calls by its OWN independent Migration Advisory Committee for visa reforms to protect migrant farm workers from exploitation

Labour seems wedded to a model of immigration based on creating a subclass of exploited worker.
It's sick.

Done safely, there is nothing wrong with selling plasma. Indeed, it should be encouraged if the plasma is being used to save lives.

Ideally, it should be voluntarily donated, but that can lead to shortages.

🚨 Yesterday afternoon, wind power reached a new high on the island of Ireland: 4686MW, equal to 73.5% of electricity demand and 66.8% of total generation at the time.

The previous record which stood for just over two years has now been broken twice already this winter 🥇

We did a class read of Lord of the Flies, & our English master insisted on reading the page where Jack says "bollocks to the rules"

When he read it, he spoke so quickly it sounded like "blicks"

We all burst out laughing, & spent the next 5 years shouting "blicks to the rules" every time we saw him

I'm assuming they didn't use a real animal in the 'kill the pig' scene of Lord of the Flies because of what I also assume are the rules, but it did look pretty terrifying for the victim.

cool pincer movement if you truly grasp:

AI & any concept relating to it like so-called guardrails are a scam in the deepest sense like a perpetual motion machine or a quija board — and not only a scam like a pyramid scheme which is a possible way to make money if you are first in first out

I think this is only some journalists, but it includes BBC News, @itvnews.bsky.social, Sky News, and talk radio.

Obviously, all the explicitly right wing funded channels (GB News, Talk TV, Times Radio etc) are also content with interpreting X as a proxy for the will of the people.
It's galling to contemplate but I really think you have to admit that Musk buying X was an unqualified victory. It can't be exaggerated just how much prominent journalists, pundits, business type, etc. mistake the vibe on X for "how the country is feeling."

This is utter madness.

In 2025/6, the BBC World Service has been funded by £137m from the Foreign Office & £221m from the licence fee.

This is after a 21% (£54.2m) real terms cut since 2022.

The return on this investment in terms of soft power this brings the UK is incalculable.

Making an accurate assessment of public opinion is tricky. Questionnaires have to be carefully constructed to avoid skewing the results. Here's an example of how not to do it -

Please share. I’m surprised many people haven’t seen it yet.

The hard right, genocide supporting, Israeli lobby in the UK erasing Palestinian history, and the British Museum has made itself complicit.

Don't think this sort of Trumpian and Putinesque censorship and rewriting of history can't happen here. It's been going on for years.
The British Museum has removed the word Palestine from displays about the ancient Middle East following “concerns” by a UK-based Israeli advocacy group.
