Another Brexit white elephant.

£111 million on this, and £100 billion on that, and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

Amazed and appalled to watch Blair still defending the illegal Iraq invasion with messianic zeal.

More of us should have listened to Claire Short's and Robin Cook's critique at the time.

Imagine how many 100,000s of innocent Iraqi lives could have been saved.

I spent my childhood inside of American concentration camps. I know one when I see one. And that is what ICE is building.

Oh yes, it's terrible for the economy as a whole because of the multiplier effect of employees not buying stuff, but great if you own the business, and can salt your millions away in a tax haven or by buying another piece of fine art.
It will also reduce cash flow because people will have less cash to spend. It is an all round loser.
February 18, 2026 at 9:51 AM
It won't. Businesses will just have cheaper labour costs for the same productivity, and as a result be able to pay even bigger dividends to shareholders, and higher bonuses to the CEO and senior managers.

That's how it has worked for 40 years or more.

I don't understand how cutting the minimum wage is going to increase jobs available. All I see is opportunity for exploitation.

I know Luke Johnson. He was on the board of a company that employed me in a senior position.

I have no hesitation in saying he is a complete and utter areshole, a terrible employer and an even worse person.

They don't care.

These statements are an electoral calculation about "white working class men".

It's a dog whistle. We don't need to waste our time stating the obvious.

Enjoy something approaching fair and reasonable pay while you can people because if Reform and/or the Tories form the next govt there will be no increases to the minimum wage for at least five years, and that's assuming they don't just abolish it.

The thing is, registered Republicans are already enablers and collaborators.

The fact that they anonymously say they have no opinion on whether the moon is made of cheese is moral cowardice, but they've already shown us who they are, and most would do it again.

We have to deal with that.

For months I've banged the drum that "not sure" has become the safe harbor answer for "Republicans who know Trump's probably wrong, but don't want to admit it."

Today's Economist/YouGov Poll: Is Donald Trump racist?
41% of Republicans have No Opinion.

In 1996, my employer raised one billion dollars for the Milosevic regime in Serbia.

That money definitely helped Milosevic to wage genocidal war in Kosovo.

Also, MI6 asked one of our directors, an ex guardsman, to try to tap Mrs Milosevic's mobile phone.

True story.

Remember Blair coming to power, & the blizzard of seemingly endless policies that all looked like they were great ways of addressing longstanding problems.

Even the simple stuff like banning tobacco advertising in sports.

They were good, optimistic, times for a while.

And of course (e) Musk-worship.

Plus the "legit" institutions that are still on there. As they should not be.

If you want a clear sign that the country has definitely gone to shit, it's the popularity of sixty second "micro dramas".

In the event that it was missed at the time, just dug this out of an old archive. If required, there is an image of the original flyer prior to adding the text box.

In case of any doubt, this was a genuine Conservative Party general election flyer in 2010.

To which I fully acknowledge adding a box of black text.

Nigel Farage lashes out at a FT journalist and refuses to answer the question.

Is this how Reform UK would ignore media questions if they got into government?

Made for a great school trip for an 11 year old back in the day, along with the Roman Pavement.
The Roman Pharos (lighthouse) at Dover, still standing after almost 2,000 years! 🤩

It is the tallest surviving Roman structure in Britain, and one of only three surviving lighthouses from the former Roman Empire! Dated 1st-2nd century AD.

Between the ages of 4 to 6, I loved pancakes - especially ones smothered in Nutella. Then one day we ran out of chocolate spread, and someone gave me lemon and sugar.

That was the end of the affair.

I still shudder when I think about it.

One of the more hopeful signs in UK politics is that Reform consistently struggles to poll above the mid-to-high 20s - despite a deteriorating economy, the simultaneous implosion of both the traditional parties and a pet TV station.

Reform is not some unstoppable force. It's eminently beatable.
Reform's polling is ~the lowest its been since last year's local elections
