I've said in the past that I don't write for skimmers. If you skip past something and get confused, well Mr. Policeman, I gave you all the words.

So I'm certainly not going to write for scrapers and summarizers either 🤷‍♀️
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

One of the tragedies of growing up is it's apparently no longer "socially acceptable" to carry around a cool rock & show it to people you meet.

So I have to respect the Chinese, Korean & Japanese for having a tradition of finding cool rocks & displaying them.

Let's talk about scholar's stones.

it's so funny that elon musk tried to make a child that actually likes him a dozen times and failed each time and then had his employees build him a robot to love him and it only works like half the time and keeps declaring itself mechahitler

my library's policy.

Librarians like to say that book bans interfere with parents' direction of their children's reading. But also, by letting minors be patrons, librarians do not collude with parents' control over their children's reading.

The freedom to read is radically democratic. 📚

What I've been noticing lately in convos with students is that they *despise* the AI-slopification of everything as much or even more than I do. And yet our universities & their admin seem to believe that students for some reason want it integrated into everything. THEY DON'T.
“To be sat there with this material in front of you that is just really not worth anyone’s time, when you could be spending that time actually engaging with something worthwhile, is really frustrating,” he said.

The good news is we don't have to make these trades. Just nominate somebody willing to stand up for everyone. Not just because it's the right thing to do; it's a much more compelling message. It's a *winning* message. Trans people would very much like to beat Republicans; they're telling you how.

Actually the question that occurs to me is "will you nominate him anyway even after years of people telling you they won't vote for him if you do, and then when you lose as you were warned you would, will you blame not yourselves but the people who warned you."
If he ends up being the Democrat on the presidential ticket in 2028, you would rather vote republican or not vote at all because of this issue?? That’s the million dollar question. Not the hill I would die on and def not worth losing an election over!

i try not to get too upset about the way the attention economy moves because i know i do it too but the federal goons never left. they went from 10 raids a day to 1-2 because they don’t have the capacity to do this shock and awe campaign nationwide. but they’re still here
People have largely tried to act like ICE/CBP failed and retreated from LA and that is completely untrue. If it weren’t for the relentless coverage of places like @lataco.bsky.social these stories would be completely under the radar.
ICE has been raiding my neighborhood and surrounding ones for the last couple of weeks now. They commandeered my local church (against the pastor's will) for a staging site and raided supermarkets, parks, Goodwills, bus stops, you name it.

The national media's been silent. So has @mayor.lacity.gov.

It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...

For decades, Greebles have been used as stimuli in psychology studies on facial recognition. Greebles come in five families (Samar, Galli, Osmit, Radok and Tasio) and two genders (plok and glip).
Though nobody is sure where they come from, science owes these odd creatures an enormous debt.

remember when SEO ruined most of the internet the first time well in case you hadn't realized the internet is being ruined in new ways now trying to figure out what to put where online so people asking chatgpt for best protein powder or investment company or movie or bread brand get a certain answer
I meet adults who are frustrated by the inability of young people to google things how we did at their age, seems to be from losing touch with how it's all trash now. our lives either don't need it as often or we take for granted we gradually learned to work around slop as it festered

The actual secret to why I know stuff is that I ask a question any time I don’t understand literally anything. I don’t care how simple it is. Anybody who makes fun of you for asking a simple question likely doesn’t know the answer either

Reminder that it is much easier to tweak a social media recommendation algorithm to produce the results you want than it is to tweak an LLM to do the same. If you are on Twitter you are on a platform that shows you what Elon wants you to see (and buries your posts if they aren't)
If Musk is tweaking Grok this hard, who's going to invest in xAI?

Its real-time content gleaned from Twitter is the only edge it has in the LMArena. In any other usage category, xAI is irrelevant (so far).

Hard to believe that xAI is trying to raise $15bn at a $230bn valuation right now.

The House has voted unanimously to repeal the provisions in the shutdown package which allow GOP Senators to sue the federal government and get as much as $1 million in damages - because the feds looked at their phone records in the Jan. 6 investigation.

I think the key things here are that it wasn't a secret, and that the tolerated norm of powerful men trading access to 18-24 year old women very easily slid into them trading access to children.
to me the truly disturbing thing about all the epstein shit is not so much who it comes out was part of it. it's that it is essentially something that shouldn't, conventional (among progressives too!) wisdom suggested, have been possible: an actual secret paedophile ring of the rich and powerful
