I've seen the Chinese gov engage in all kinds of grotesque repression of labor activism, but this is a new level of absurdity.

Solidarity to the Hungry Panda workers!
HungryPanda delivery drivers say police contacted family back home
Riders embroiled in a dispute over pay and conditions with food delivery company HungryPanda in Sydney say Chinese police have asserted pressure back home to stop them protesting.

Been a day. I heard the Albo interview on Sydney radio this morning. Very interesting to hear him celebrate his government restricting kids access to social media, for the good of children, after saying that Australian kids stuck overseas as ‘the responsibility of their mothers’. 🗑️

The Russo-Japanese War was the first major conflict in history that saw more deaths in combat than deaths by disease.

Realistically, if you were sent to war any time before WW1, you were more likely to shit yourself to death than die at the hands of the enemy.
If anyone asks you who won the Crimean War the answer is indisputably “cholera”

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean... (scroll to “Casualties and Losses”)
A major cause of death in pretty much every pre-20th century war (especially siege based ones) was highly curable bacterial diseases ripping through people in close proximity to each other, as opposed to actual violence.

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

So when thousands of women (and children) were being duplicated--including in non-consensual AI porn--it was no big deal. But it took "only a 15-sec clip" of these two famous white men to draw outrage and fear. Gotcha. Cool cool.
It took only a 15-second clip of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt duking it out on a crumbling rooftop — made by A.I. with a two-sentence prompt and the click of a button — to draw swift outrage, and sizable fear, from Hollywood.

"It’s nothing short of terrifying," one scriptwriter said.
Why an A.I. Video of Tom Cruise Battling Brad Pitt Spooked Hollywood
A 15-second clip created by an artificial intelligence tool owned by the Chinese technology company ByteDance appears more cinematic than anything so far.

We've finally come full circle. People are longing for less chatter dialogue in their games by referencing ocarina, a game that people consistently complained about Navi being too talkative to the point of it being a meme for 20 odd years.
This is why I just recently dropped a game 😂😂😂😂

Like we don’t need banter every second silence is okay haha

that "fighting tories" poster of Albo's should read "scared of tories"
it's a dumb question i guess: but how long will the racist hard right rump of this country determine immigration policy and a host of other social programs and positions? what kind of misjudged cowardice lets that happen?
