So for those keeping track, this is ornament two of 16 (that’s the final count for coworkers). I like using magic loop as I feel it creates a more natural round shape versus the DPNs. This was a different “scene” for each section versus a repeat. 🧶 #knitting
As I am making a ton of cookie dough at the moment. I had a thought about butter guy. Hope his baking is going well…

I also got taught in catering class never to let go of sharp objects in the washing up. So I always leave knives safely against the splashback until ready to be washed. And then do each in turn rather than them just being put in washing up bowl risking cuts.

As many of us begin Christmas meal prep, allow me to share the advice that my ER nurse sister puts in the chat every year:

A dropped knife has no handle. Jump away. Let it fall. You can pick it up and wash it.

The whole reason we have a government is to do those things that a modern society requires to function, but which can’t easily be done at a profit.

From the mail to the buses to the cops to the sewers, all that shit needs to get done whether someone can make a buck doing it or not.

The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.

So I do have some sources for ready made clothing that are mostly natural fiber. I am shopping for a plus female and a Big & Tall man, so my children’s knowledge is iffy. Almost all clothing comes with poor labor conditions, some better than others. (Like, I don’t recc Nike cuz they keep lying.)
Driving less and buying fewer, and only natural fiber, clothes is far more effective than banning assistive devices necessary for daily participation in usual life activities (straws).
And a reminder that straw bans are a form of ableism, and eugenics will not get us out of this mess.

Also the genre fucking rocks and is full of some amazing, creative, intelligent people who are absolutely doing incredible things and who are about as politically plugged in as any force can be.

But anyway.

It is about this: because so many people do not give a shit about romance, shit gets tried in romance first.

You should pay attention to romance publishing news and care about it, because they will try that shit here first.

Read the Jack Smith report.

Garland was NOT dragging his feet. He had proffers from more than 50 people, millions of pages of documents, and had litigated dozens of pre-indictment legal motions long before Smith was appointed.

Garland did his job. SCOTUS failed the country.

If this story is as damaging as it sounds, and Weiss killing it only makes it louder, its poetic justice. If its as bad as it sounds and these atrocities are just the tip of the iceberg, we owe it to these people to keep the pressure on.

One of the revelations in the 60 Minutes CECOT story, as sourced by the UC Berkley students, is that Kristi Noem's torture porn video was filmed in a different part of the prison - not with the deported Venezuelans, but with domestic criminals from El Salvador.

I love this tiny moment in Die Hard. Powell’s dramatic reverse away from gunfire glimpsed from Argyle’s limo. A load of technical setup for a couple of seconds, but like a lot of grace notes in Die Hard it adds levity and reinforces character.

I highly recommend watching this segment, not just because the CBS News execs and the White House didn’t want you to, but because these men were tortured and they deserved to have their voices heard.
!! Here’s a link to full video of the 60 Minutes segment that Bari Weiss killed last minute, via @jasonparis.bsky.social:

NEW: Organ tuners have been leaving temperature and humidity records in little-known books for decades. 🎹

They reveal how temperatures inside churches have changed over time due to climate change and increased heating.

A new scoop for The Reengineer!

Church organ tuning records mirror our warming climate
The records appear to reflect climate change, as well as the increased heating of churches in winter

It’s great that 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi is coming right out swinging. Not having a second of this bullshit!

I think coddled hacks like Bari Weiss have no idea what to do with righteous fury like this except, if anything, somehow play victim. Let’s see!
Again, from Michael Grynbaum, here is Sharyn Alfonsi's full email.

It must be read:

it doesn’t make up for hiring her at all but god how satisfying if she’s forced to slink out in disgrace this soon

just an unmitigated flop. not even something she can twist into woke persecution. just good old-fashioned sucking at her job
Expect a "revolt" among 60 Minutes staff over Bari Weiss pulling the CECOT segment at the last minute, one network insider told me.

Another CBS News reporter added that a Rubicon had been crossed with this decision, which 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi called "political" and not editorial.
