Why I love WWI memoirs

Story from one I’m transcribing today about a joe rushing to his stokes mortar to put over a counter barrage wearing only his underwear and a sweater vest and holding a plate of beans and then hanging rounds while still holding onto the plate of beans

I love doughboys

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

I wonder if this is what it felt like to live through the Watergate scandal.

Kinda wild we haven't had a recent Epsteingate think piece.

Either nature is healing or the NYT fired all the writers and even the LLM knows the title is stupid.

More than anything else, powerful men - like the ones who run the NYT - believe in the legitimacy of power itself. Because if it isn’t legitimate, they have to start asking hard questions about the world and themselves.

I have like $100 left in my checking account set aside for groceries and gas. I really shouldn't be looking at old obscure mirrorless cameras. But I will be doing exactly that.

These puppers have never been fed. Look at those faces. Would they lie to you?
The thing to know about dogs is that they exist in a special quantum state. They have never been fed until they get fed, and as soon as the last bite is gone, they revert to the never-been-fed condition.

My opinion of golf as a sport is probably irreversibly tainted by my time in corporate America, where every guy I knew who played golf was a complete douchebag.

And that's one of the reasons why you want a good agent and gladly let them have their 15%--they know contracts and will keep you from selling your work for a handful of magic beans.
This is at least the fourth story I've seen of an author having to exchange multiple emails (over 20) with this publisher to get the contract language to not be rights grabby and it's one of three where the writer walked away.

I appreciate the effort and transparency but I will also say-
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

“Individuals taking jobs from Americans”?

Like CEO of Tesla or Palantir, or perhaps First Lady?
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

If you think me saying that calling for illegal and unconstitutional torture of a stranger because you don’t like their otherwise legal but immoral behavior is wrong is an example of me acting like I’m better than you then I submit I ain’t fuckin acting.

I am better than you.

Thinking a lot about Luthen's language as we watch the dam start to crack on the Epstein information. What if many prominent politicians, businessmen, and celebrities go up in flames from this?

"Then they will burn. Very brightly."

After that, it will be Winter car fixing time. There will be lots to do on both race cars.

Fucking Children: It’s Unpopular. But Just How Unpopular, And What Does That Mean For The Midterms? We Made An Ugly-Ass Infographic To Explain.

We’re CNN.
Harry Enten: "Nobody is buying what Trump is selling on Epstein. His net approval on it is an absolutely dreadful -39 pts... Far worse than any other major issue.

It isn't improving over time.

Even among the GOP, just 45% (!) approve of the job the Trump admin is doing on the Epstein case."

I’m not a hundred percent sure that the average GOP elected official has any idea what the ACA even *is* anymore.

“Obamacare is bad and must be repealed” is just sort of a part of the Modern Republican catechism that gets mouthed by rote.

They don’t know what it is, they just know it’s bad.
