Watching people I used to respect either equivocating about or straight-up stanning for the most egregiously shameful fear-biting episode in modern US law enforcement history makes me question my life choices.

"It is striking that the capital offense for which both Pretti and Renee Good... were summarily executed was the crime of witness... Both were engaged in the task that democracies assign to citizens: that of paying close attention to the workings of power."
The Crime of Witness | Fintan O’Toole
Renée Good and Alex Pretti were murdered for daring to interfere with the Trump administration’s efforts to normalize abductions and state violence.

Who could have imagined that rip crews would start posing as masked, non-uniformed federal goon squads?

Hey, if you’re in Indianapolis, especially in the Broad Ripple neighborhood, boycott the fash at BRICS.

Nazis don’t need your ice cream money.

Reading Vox Day So You Don’t Have To 2026 [5]
As we are on the topic of science and credible people who had doubts about the theory of evolution by natural selection, one figure whose work I've found thought provoking was Imre Lakatos. Like many really clever people of the 20th century, he was Hungarian and Jewish. He died at the age of 51 and his most influential work Proofs & Refutations was published posthumously. I used to have a copy but I haven't read it in years. The book uses a dialogue approach to show how mathematical ideas and mathematical proofs happen.

Finally got around to a bit of research I'd been meaning to explore, and: There is no documented instance of an ICE officer being identified and assaulted while off duty because he wasn't masked. www.pbump.net/o/ices-excus...
ICE’s excuse for wearing masks has never actually manifested
There have been incidents of harassment and threats. But there are no apparent incidents in which identified ICE officers have been assaulted off-duty.

This is fascinating tech legacy stuff!
It's why so many systems were based on five-letter code groups, five letters having been deemed the standard word length for arbitrary letter groupings by the telegraph companies.

Early telegraph data compression methods like Philips Code gave us acronyms like SCOTUS & POTUS.
