why tf the IRS out there
On Friday August 22, Park Police, IRS Criminal Investigation, and Metro transit police were stopping passengers exiting the Rhode Island Ave Brentwood WMATA stop in Washington, DC around 6:45pm. A small group of protesters showed up, and the police left shortly after.

no. five times more, at least. and make sure they are terrified of letting anyone, including their relatives, buy them anything.
the most antipopularist and simultaneously best policy position to hold: we need to pay our legislators, all of them, like three times their current salaries or they will get the money somewhere else
It's deliberate. State legislatures are often designed to enfranchise only the wealthiest and most powerful in a given state.

Oregon has a similar problem; our state legislator pay is dirt, so you usually get someone cowed by big money or otherwise privileged somehow

New— Nazis with giant swastika flags marched in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday with two police escorts. They shouted “white power” and said to the woman who took this video (reshared here with her permission) “fuck you, n***** bitch.”

Police did not intervene. I cannot find local news coverage.

DC guards were not likely going to be violent towards DC residents (like CA guards were reluctant to harm LA residents). So they are bringing in kids from the red states for what now looks like a de facto occupation which could get even uglier …

Masked secret police opening gunfire on civilians who asked for the identification because there is no way to know anymore if you’re dealing with an organized cartel or federal agents.
Video shows the family fleeing after masked and unidentified men attempted to detain them and firing three gun shots at the passenger side door behind where the son was sitting.

Or, put another way: More than half the U.S. population believes the opposite of the truth. www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-...
Do Americans back Trump’s takeover of DC police? Here’s what a new poll found
Trump announced he would federalize the capital’s police department under the Home Rule Act, a 1973 law that grants the president emergency police control for a 30-day period.

As DC was taken over by Trump’s secret police, where were congressional Democrats? They weren’t in DC and some weren’t even in the US.

Instead of fighting back against the authoritarian takeover here at home, 22 House “Democrats” were being spoon-fed lies about Gaza on a trip paid for by AIPAC.

A useful WaPo map of where Trump Storm Troops are actually operating in DC.

If you know DC, what this map tell you is: They're making the gaudy show of strength in areas where it matters least and will do least good. Except for sheer spectacle.

Creating a "national police force" was for decades a right-wing bogeyman, the feared unconstitutional federal usurpation of states' rights, the very thing "support your *local* police" and fetishizing elected sheriffs was all about.

I find I am normally in the 'no need to panic' camp, but this development is extremely, robustly bad, especially if the administration, as it has suggested, intends to violate the 30-day statutory limit for this intervention in DC.

Remember that time a cis guy crashed out for two weeks saying slurs at trans people and threatening to sexually assault women before the mods acted?

Pretty wild that they suspended Jessie Gender for "I wish ill on JK Rowling," isn't it? I wonder what distinguishes her from the cis man? 🤔

The centrist wing of the Dems supported it too.

This from @lizsaila.bsky.social is one of the most important projects I’ve ever seen. Looking at the data you can visualize the various intersecting strategies as various groups disseminate legislation templates. With a complicit news media, they manufactured the political will for where we are now.
I came across that today while working on tracing the legislative language used to describe gender identity and sex.

The propaganda term "biological sex" explodes in 2015 through ADF model bills on bathrooms & sports.

Prior to that it's mostly "sex at birth"

"Republicans are a death cult" isn't hyperbole, it's a statement of fact. Why would anyone want to know *less* about our Earth? Because knowing about changes to our climate, storms, land, water, and air saves lives and makes lives better, and they hate that, they want death and destruction.

Many green spaces in DC are federal property and are now places where you are at higher risk of interactions with law enforcement.

it appears that @bsky.app have suspended the account of @jessiegender because a trans person saying "I wish ill on JK Rowling" is against the rules, so let me say with my loud cis voice that I too wish ill on all perpetrators of hate speech against trans people

reinstate Jessie, this is ridiculous
