Incidentally fight/don't-fight maps pretty well onto not-crank/crank in terms of Dem constituencies

There is actually a coherent political concept, in the current era, behind AOC-Kristol-Bouie Thought
My very strong suspicion is that the left/right axis and the fight/don't-fight axis are in the process of unlinking, and that the fight/don't-fight split is emerging as the core struggle in the Democratic Party.
We seriously need to separate the left/right axis from the fight/don’t fight axis.

Scoop: State Dept. to use AI to revoke visas of foreign students who appear "pro-Hamas"
The effort includes AI-assisted reviews of tens of thousands of student visa holders' social media accounts and marks a dramatic escalation in the U.S. government's policing of foreign nationals' cond...

I think it’s fascinating how this administration’s guiding principle on every single policy is just “be evil.”

Starving children? Take away their food. AIDS patients? Take away their treatments. Refugees from conflict zones? Deport them. Nations under attack? Cut off assistance. VA? Fire everyone.

getting into the leo frank conspiracy theory is hardcore nazi shit. hardcore. the most hardcore. this woman has no place in public life
Some of the antisemitic conspiracy theories and associations the Pentagon’s new deputy press secretary, Kingsley Wilson, has amplified online:

🔎 Long-debunked lies about Leo Frank
🔎 Great Replacement theory
🔎 Celebrating Christian nationalism
🔎 Praising Germany's far-right AfD party
Pentagon deputy press secretary Kingsley Wilson is a prolific purveyor of antisemitic conspiracy theories

Pretty clear. The goal here was to do a kind of ritual humiliation of Zelensky and Ukraine. They pushed Zelensky past his limit. Trump now says, in essence, you're own your own with Russia. Up to the free states of Europe now.
Trump declares that Zelensky is “not ready for peace,” accuses him of trying to prolong the war using U.S. leverage, and says he’s not welcome back at the White House “until he’s ready for peace.”

Thread on why you don't hate legacy media nearly as much as you should.
(1/X) The next four years are likely to be a disaster in many regards: more plane crashes, more outbreaks of measles and other infectious diseases, snafus with tax refunds and Medicaid payments, terrorist attacks, and probably a recession.

The media will tell us none of it is Trump's fault...

it’s extremely revealing that the countries most frequently cited as role models by the alt-right are Hungary, El Salvador, and Russia

unlike Elon, I actually like America and don’t think we should be importing corrupt governance structures from authoritarian states with a fraction of our GDP

This is money already owed. For work already done. They’re asking SCOTUS to let Trump run the government the way he runs his businesses.
BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS over order that State/USAID pay owed contracts by the end of the day.

This is coming out of Judge Ali’s Feb. 13 TRO, which he ordered the government to adhere to — with a deadline — in a new order issued on Tuesday.

There's this tendency among right wing politicians and silicon valley types to say the dumbest shit and frame it in this "why do you hate efficiency" or other "just asking questions" ways, knowing their bots and (even dumber) followers will just parrot it.

"Amazon deliveries." This is Jason Calacanis, a venture capitalist & prominent Musk toady. And he does not know a big percentage of Amazon deliveries are made by the USPS. I will never get over how stupid the people at the top of US society are.

Anyone want to wager whether Russia or China would go along with this?

Do these illiterates know what happened to the small and medium German states once the Holy Roman Empire was gone?
Even calling Yarvin (or any of these people) midwit is too complimentary.

Every part of this is unworkable (and undesirable). Even if they could get it to temporarily happen, all these microduchies would get swallowed up by those that could finance large states.

Read another book, but for fascist tech bros.
This is a lift from Neal Stephenson's 1992 sci-fi novel "Snow Crash". In it, the world has been carved up into "Franchise-Organized Quasi-National Entities (FOQNEs), each run by its own big business franchise (such as "Mr. Lee's Greater Hong Kong". Gated communities become sovereign "Burbclaves".

Exactly.

Elon doesn't care when he lies but he looks like a moron when he says things like the USG doesn't use SQL.

And his broccoli boys are so incompetent they didn't filter out judicial or natsec accounts from the DOGE email.

These subjunior devs can't write a line of code without Copilot.
Stories like this matter because Elon still has lots of soldiers who genuinely believe that he lives up to his "first principles" patter, and puts merit and efficacy first.

Experienced tech folks need to make it clear that he and his goons are partisan hacks with "limited technical understanding."
So they started out with ~100 existing staffers, 60 have now resigned.

Just as I said, surrendering to Russia makes WWIII more likely, if not imminent, not less.
Polish general Rajmund Andrzejczak: "If Russia attacks even an inch of Lithuanian territory, the response will come immediately. Not on the first day, but in the first minute. We will hit all strategic targets within a radius of 300 km. We will attack St. Petersburg directly". (October 2024 onet.pl)
