Another thing this email trove has convinced me of is that NYT has been actively and consciously helping Trump since 2015. It wasn't just casual sexism, double standards, and political reporting Kayfabe. They were doing catch and kill

Saying the most basic shit about politics, like "Voters have to feel like you like them" and "We should be able work with people who aren't our exact type of communist" will get you feted as a cis white oysterman and dragged as a trans woman or a Muslim, I guess

Talking do one of the chief DOT signal network guys last night and he brought up that a few years back the next NYSDOT region over had the system they use to monitor and control traffic signals get hit by a DDOS attack that originated in Russia.
between this and the FSO Safer (another ship at serious risk of exploding) I’m convinced every field has its “yeah, this is the problem that keeps me up at night” and I’m on a quest to learn about all of them
yes yes we all know about the Edmund Fitzgerald, rest her soul, but did you know about the ship laden with explosives that sank in the mouth of the Thames in 1944 and could explode at any minute and which attempts to disarm keep failing

Politico actually managed to crunch some of the numbers on just how much less of a presence Schumer has had in NY lately. Certainly a lot can be chalked up to trying to fight against Trump, but even compared to Trump I when he was also minority leader he is less present.

This was pretty much the shut down. Dems felt good about stopping the government and it gave them a momentary high but

1. Trump was still President and doing bad stuff

2. The GOP didn’t (and dont) care about being blamed for the shut down

Dems weren’t in as strong a position as they felt
That there is no easy button to push to stop Trump 🤷‍♂️

All jokes aside, the majority of the angst leads back to November 2024. People just want it all to stop and the unfortunate reality is, elections are the only thing that will do that.

if I'm an ATC who took one measly sick day since it was fucking October and my kid had a cold I am *incandescent* over this.
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

I need those ACA subsidies.

My neighbors need food.

I’m not going to fault the only party that wants us to have both for only being able to secure the food.

Be mad at Republicans.
Be mad at your maga family.

If that's the deal, and the minibus stops RIFs, and we can just do this all over again in February if they renege... I think that's a viable outcome.

The bottom line is that if the GOP wants to break the ACA, they're going to be able to do it, and we should chain it to their necks in the midterms.
"More than enough" Senate Democratic Caucus members to pass shutdown deal led by Shaheen, King and Hassan, source familiar with deal says

- CR through Jan. 30
- ACA bill vote on bill of Dems' choosing in December
- Minibus has RIF reversals and "protections" against them in future
