HRC did the same thing of visiting every county in NY and won the Senate seat despite not even living in NY prior. (Monyihan's endorsement helped a lot, but in the likely scenario Schumer retires in '28, I think him endorsing AOC is way likelier than people on this site give credit to.)

Got to see how she moves post '26 if she puts in the legwork of visiting the Upstate counties she can likely carry it. Schumer's success was figuring out if you do basic retail politics in Binghamton or a stump speech up in SUNY Potsdam people fall over themselves to vote for you.

Which is what Mamdani did. He understood who the actual movers of votes were and aggressively pursued them and locked them down early, and your upset that a congressman who is not often in district due to demands of their position wasnt one of those people.

Thats like saying Im 1000x more informed than a toddler on quantum thermodynamics. Technically true, but Im not going to try and act like I have any meaningful knowledge on the subject, and maybe you should consider a similar stance when if comes to local nyc political coalitions.

The base is 100% out for blood (rightly so) and Schumer and Senate Ds litteraly can not deliver that because they dont have 51 votes. Maybe better PR helps, but I dont envy the person charged with talking down the angry mob.

This sums my thoughts pretty well. No leader (especially minority leader) in modern history could have stopped the cavers. What he could do is better manage expectations with the base and frame the cave better. But with a sizeable portion of the base thinking shutdown shoulda lasted to 26??
"Control" is not in the lexicon of a Senate floor leader in describing his relationship with party colleagues. Never has been. Not even LBJ. But PR is something that a leader is expected to manage well. Schumer rose over Durbin for this reason, but he doesn't get a passing grade in this episode.

The problem is, who the hell would want that job right now, and could you say confidently that any challenger would perform better? Chuck Schumer's primary job right now seems to largely consists of being the sin eater for senate Ds to protect vulnerable members.

I dont know, he got elevated to house minority leader, clearly the community leaders of the district picked a winning horse.
The problem is you don't seem to differiate between federal and local power and the different centers of gravity that drive each.

You are arguing for a tail wagging the dog moment. Jeffries is supported by a coalition of local faith leaders in district, they tell him what to do, not the other way around. If Mamdani wanted to win that district he needed the people who put Jeffries in Congress, nkt Jeffries himself.

Im not stanning him, my very argument is that Jeffries is an irrelevant bit player in NYC politics compared to the people he helped introduce Mamdani to.
Youre the one whom seems to think Jeffries endorsement, regardless of timing, was a make or break moment for Mamdani. You're tilting at windmills

You dont think getting Mamdani in the door with prominent GOTV organizers is useful in winning elections? Jeffries doesnt have a cadre of people his endorsement can bring to the polls, the 20 black pastors Jeffries brought to his meeting with Mamdani, and Rep. Yvette Clarke did.

Federal workers were coming up on a third missed paycheck which was absolutely immiserating a big chunk of some of the cavers' constituencies. Others like King and Shaheen seemed to have been trying to cave since day 1 but couldn't find enough defectors to join them.

He didnt endorse anyone in the previous mayoral election. And he acted as a go between for Mamdani and a lot of actually powerful local leaders and organizers in the lead up, which Id argue is way more valuable than the endorsement.

I feel like Im carrying water for Schumer here but Jeffries has the advantage of:
A) Johnson going MIA, you dont have to whip votes if there are no votes happening.
B) House leadership has way more sticks & carrots to enforce discipline than the Senate leadership. 1 of the traitorous 8 isnt even a D

Ask the voters from 2024 who decided the Republicans should be in charge of everything.
