the Greenland shit is 'a distraction' in the sense that putting an IED in a preschool to get the cops away from your bank robbery is a distraction: it will probably work in the near term, it's massively stupid as a strategy in the long term in terms of heat on you, and the stakes are deadly serious

An underrated thing Eisenhower did once was torpedo an early attempt by Douglas MacArthur to run for president. Dwight was asked if he was going to run and he said a currently serving general should not run for office. Dougie was not happy to hear he said that.
