I get all the problems with the nba 2k series but it is very cool that you can play a game from the 1980’s and the game makes it look like a broadcast from the 80’s and the announcers talk about how great Sidney Moncrief is. Madden has never done stuff like that.

The idea that this political violence is the consequence of people on both sides cheering it on seems like a sympathetic point but just doesn’t hold up to history. In my adult life, I’ve seen people on the right do everything from kill politicians to kill regular citizens, and it’s shrugged off.

JK Galbraith has a good line about how the crash of 29 wiped out *tons* of people who had safely cashed out because they bought at what seemed like crazy bargain prices, only for the slide to continue
all the big slides that you think of as massive single day crashes were in fact month-long processes with a few days of modest gains or flat
