Ethan Hawk’s performance in Blue Moon (2025) is utterly astonishing. i loved this movie – modern cinematic chamber pieces are such a rarity these days and I’m so grateful that Richard Linklater is so dedicated to filmmaking and willing to make intimate portraits like this. Fantastic picture.

Did Godard really give his script supervisor a hard time, or is Richard Linklater just trolling Ethan Hawke?

I ran up six flights of stairs
to my small furnished room
opened the window
and began throwing out
those things most important in life

First to go, Truth, squealing like a fink:
“Don’t! I’ll tell awful things about you!”
“Oh yeah? Well, I’ve nothing to hide... OUT!”

The culture of disposability around criminalized people set us up for this moment, and to fight fascism, we are going to have to rage against that culture of disposal. Submitting to it (or hiding behind it) is an egregious form of surrender.

Alan Dershowitz is one of those claiming Epstein was not a pedophile because he pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. "That’s not a pedophile." See this important response from Julia Brown, the brave reporter who broke the news on this

To be very clear, Virginia Giuffre was made to say she mistakenly identified Alan Dershowitz as one of the people who sexually abused her. Here is the proof from this week's Epstein files dropped by the House Oversight Committee.

A great poetry series around here starts with a land acknowledgment, and one of the hosts shares her practice of matching every land acknowledgment she participates in with a financial donation to an Indigenous-led organization, which I love.
I actively fucking *love* land acknowledgments! They’re moving and kind, and teach you about history and model showing respect for others. They are literally only good in every way.
my wokest opinion is that land acknowledgements are fine. people knowing a little bit about the land you're on, even if one isn't invested in a land back project, is not particularly worse than the status quo, even if one comes by this info in a way that is somewhat cringe and forced

JD Vance owns a company that buys American real estate and sells it to foreign investors. They specifically target Americans in crisis to buy their property for less than it is worth.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored.

That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.
