Ethan Hawk’s performance in Blue Moon (2025) is utterly astonishing. i loved this movie – modern cinematic chamber pieces are such a rarity these days and I’m so grateful that Richard Linklater is so dedicated to filmmaking and willing to make intimate portraits like this. Fantastic picture.

More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.

Pritzer gets the mechanics of authoritarianism – systemic intimidation, seizing control of elections, etc. – in a way others in national democratic leadership don't or won't say out loud.
Pritzker: "One of the reasons Trump wants to send troops into cities is bc he wants to be able to take control of the 2026 elections...if they've got troops in cities, & it becomes a kind of norm for people, then it won't be abnormal for them when they're going to vote having troops at ballot boxes"

The offer made to women in the enticement to become trad wives is the same as the offer made to citizens in the enticement to embrace authoritarianism: give up. Abandon the aspiration to self rule. It’s imprisonment recast as rest and relief.

the great missing thru-line in media reporting remains trump's assault on fact & reality. it's weird, because it's a decade-long failure, yet fact is essential to the press' role in democracy. it's just a consistent, repeated failure to articulate for the public that propaganda *is the policy*.

Markwayne Mullin: "There are 35 million people that live below the poverty line inside the US. There are over 70 million people signed up for Medicaid. Now you're gonna tell me there's not room to make cuts?"

Nbd just kinda telling how all our advice about how to stay safer at protests is about protecting ourselves from cops and not ever not once that I have ever seen about keeping us safe from other protesters

Almost like there's only one real threat to protester safety or something
N95 masks get wet when cops start gassing so ideally if you have access to a proper respirator, plus it's not like there's any less sickness in the air than 5 years ago

And keep water on you for hydration/eye flushing (milk is not ideal), and no hot showers after gas bc it reactivates it 😭
