i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

The shorter version of every Miller post is "I'm not just a White Nationalist. I'm also an idiot."
Immigrant-hating Stephen Miller talks about Americans being "first to harness the atom." But the first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction was conducted by a team led by Italian immigrant Enrico Fermi, who didn't become a U.S. citizen until a year and a half later.

(Paul is just posting this, not responsible for it, don't attack him.)

I am actually 100% open to having conversations about AI, but unfortunately the conversations often start from the premise "the tools that are being found to fail ~90% of the time in actual use are inevitable"

And I disagree. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My latest for @heatmap.news:

It’s now safe to say the “all-of-the-above” Republican Party is dead.

A new anti-renewables movement is gaining steam in Congress and could derail the chances of a comprehensive deal to change the federal permitting process. And they nearly sank it today.
The Party of ‘All of the Above’ Is Now ‘Anything But’
The tension between the two GOP energy philosophies — one admitting renewables, the other firmly rejecting — could tank the SPEED Act.

The purpose of a system is what it does.
GenAI truly is the asbestos poisoning our collectively shared resources and infrastructure.
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

I’m genuinely baffled that they are not only licensing their valuable characters for the slop-shop, but they’re *paying* for it. Ass-backwards buffoonery.

Something every 2026/28 Dem should commit to is investigations of any company that did deals with Trump. A kind of forward guidance to get companies to think twice in advance of what’s coming.
Fox News will applaud this but can you imagine their coverage if President Biden hatched a secret plan to take over Fox News and revamp its programming to be nicer to him

Weird situation. AI adoption in the work world is stagnating, while higher-ed institutions are rushing to embrace it so that students will be prepared for…the work world?
“we estimate employment-weighted share of Americans using AI at work has fallen by a percentage point & now sits at 11%. Adoption has fallen sharply at the largest businesses, those employing +250 people. 3 yrs into the genAI wave, demand looks surprisingly flimsy” www.economist.com/finance-and-...
