My latest article for @ggwash.org takes a look at some of the biggest urbanist bills of #MDGA25, especially in transit, housing, & even the environment. Check it out, there's a lot of good stuff being discussed in Annapolis, even amidst all the chaos in Washington: ggwash.org/view/98490/w...
What to watch in the 2025 Maryland General Assembly
Between a budget crunch, a housing crisis, and a new appetite in Annapolis for tackling longstanding energy and environmental issues, this year’s Maryland General Assembly session could be a very prod...

brain-boiling from lockdown and such is absolutely part of it but I'm mostly referring to the sheer weight of unprocessed grief bsky.app/profile/docs...
That’s right. The experience of Covid comprehensively and irreparably boiled the brains of at least a third of our fellow citizens and we’re gonna be dealing with the consequences of this shit for the rest of our lives.

it's the COVID psychic damage
The biggest blackpill for me was a poll that found that, despite Trump's abysmal approvals and Dems cleaning house lately, an hypothetical 2024 rematch would still be a tossup. The insane reality is that a majority of US voters really experienced the Biden years as some kind of epochal catastrophe!
“I’m not gonna lie to you about the economy like Biden and trump and say it was great“

“Achtually the economy was great under Biden, the guy we dumped 4 months out from the general here are some charts“

If you think the 100% true fact that the economy was good under Biden is relevant youre dumb

I have never seen any literature to back up this assertion.

Nor have I seen any acknowledgment of the primary trade-off, namely crashes occurring when one party mistakes a two-way stop control intersection for a four-way, which seems to happen quite frequently.

The entire practice of sprinkling two-way stops into a network of four-way stops is based on a traffic engineer myth that drivers experience so-called "stop sign fatigue," and that reducing the number of stop signs increases compliance.

When I joined, we were so small scale that I had to paint banners for marches on bedsheets

Eight years later, we won the mayorship of the greatest city on earth

I don't think these results show what people think they show. Lots of lefty wishful thinking about this being a Vietnam for Trump. Handled right, it could be his biggest success. Not likely but possible, and people need to be aware of that.
Trump had found an issue more unpopular than his handling of inflation - attacking Venezuela:

The full total of RFK’s arguments against vaccines are that someone makes money so the entire scientific community is compromised.

Which is the logic of a total child.

I don't know what even the point of arguing with these people is anymore, but the idea that "the crime gene" had been weeded out by 19th-20th century Europe is something you have to be a genuine imbecile to believe.
