My latest article for @ggwash.org takes a look at some of the biggest urbanist bills of #MDGA25, especially in transit, housing, & even the environment. Check it out, there's a lot of good stuff being discussed in Annapolis, even amidst all the chaos in Washington: ggwash.org/view/98490/w...
What to watch in the 2025 Maryland General Assembly
Between a budget crunch, a housing crisis, and a new appetite in Annapolis for tackling longstanding energy and environmental issues, this year’s Maryland General Assembly session could be a very prod...

As much as this month has sucked, it has also given me enormous hope in the power of ordinary people to do extraordinarily selfless things.

There was some discussion in the subreddit the other day (www.reddit.com/r/baltimore/...) & I do think The Whistle has become its own token. And I think the symbol is far less important than the effectiveness or the impact. If our impacted neighbors are saying no whistles, that’s all I need to hear

Tenney, anyone?

Appears that GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney has been using campaign cash to lowkey stalk Novak Djokovic lol.

Rep. Claudia Tenney adores Novak Djokovic. Her team won’t say if she spent campaign cash to see him play.

20-odd years ago, I was fired from my dream job at Rolling Stone before I could publish anything. So let's try this again! Thanks to all who read me in the Post these past 6 years - hope you'll follow the next chapter.

Most liberal christians don't really create an alternative to conservative Christianity, they just try to shave off the rough edges. The issue is you end up with a religious ideology that looks like an inspirational wall poster

I think the thing I like about Tallarico (as someone who isn't Christian at all tbc!) relative to other liberal christians is that he's pretty open about and has a fairly coherent way of merging Christian doctrine and the left that's not just like "Jesus would want you to be nice"

Look man. What can I tell you. Miller is just a fascist.

We're signatories to the UN Charter. The territorial integrity of States is legally guaranteed under the UN. It's also an attack on a NATO member. We're also signatories to a treaty for the defense of Greenland. None of this is up for debate
This guy is basically inviting China to take Taiwan.

Would be wilder if it took 70 years for anyone to figure this out?
it would be wild if the way to get around Taft-Hartley turned out to be just lying when asked 'is this a general strike'
every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO

this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s

I wish Fain was more aggressive against the Trump admin

The UAW's "stand-up strike" terrified the car firms -- we only needed ~30% to strike (in targeted plants) to grind everything to a halt (for 1/3 the cost!)

If we could achieve anything like that, as a rolling strike for political demands...

turning Taft-Hartley into a dead letter would be such a spectacular self-own by the Trump admin god I hope it happens
It's genuinely insane that Taft-Hartley bans solidarity strikes

It's not just anti-labor, it's a clear violation of freedom of speech & association

Death to the Slave Labor Bill!

"this is not who we are" is 90% of the time a normative statement of aspiration, it's not an empirical claim of "these events have never taken place in this country before". one of the most obnoxious genres of "actually..." is reacting like it's the latter when it's clearly the former.

"A bill that state lawmakers will consider in Annapolis, at the behest of the governor’s office and the Maryland Department of Transportation, would allow the state to begin entering into what are known as “reciprocity agreements” with other jurisdictions."

I want Democratic politicians who sound like Mamdani, not like Newsom.
This isn't housing policy per se, but in a city where infant care averages $26k a year, universal child care would function as a massive, de facto housing subsidy—freeing up roughly $2,100 a month for rent.

More politicians need to grasp this: when it comes to "affordability," it's all connected.
Why universal child care is closer than ever in New York
One of Zohran Mamdani’s most expensive ideas has surprising early momentum.
