The people with the most power in our society appear to be nothing more than a pack of rabid chimpanzees singularly focused on destroying the works of people immeasurably better than they are.

Anarchists bombed businesses and anti-immigration politicians, assassinated royals, prime ministers and presidents, all the things today's would-be revolutionaries assure us is the only way to change things. And yet the political outcome of all that violence amounted to precisely jack and shit.
The obvious counterexample is the political violence waged by anarchists in the late 19th/early 20th century across Europe and the US. Arguably the most successful campaign of assassinations in history, hardly remembered at all today because it achieved precisely zero of its political goals.

the key thing, as the theophitigite notes, is that woke 1 is hooked on a very important crux--amia srinivasan makes this explicit in her THE RIGHT TO SEX--of wanting to radically change all aspects of society while also abjuring all coercive uses of state power

All aboard the Blexas Express.
It looks like the Republicans are conceding Texas's #SD09 to the Democrats.

They're conceding a Trump+17 district in an area of Fort Worth that's been favorable to Republicans for decades, just a massive massive loss for them.

Jeffrey Epstein sent a link to the white nationalist podcast The Right Stuff, whose core hosts played an active role in the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally. He did so in February 2016. Before TRS made national news, really.

Genuinely bizarre.

There’s a type of person who correctly perceives mass mobilization as a threat to the power they wield over the collection of thralls they’ve spent the last however many years brow beating into submission, and I think one of the errors of ‘Woke 1’ was being far too nice to these people.

We can't surrender. And I don't mean that in a rah-rah, go team Captain America speech sort of way. I mean we literally can't surrender because there is no negotiated outcome which they find favorable to breaking more and more and more. There is no zone of possible agreement.

Woke 1 is scolding that meme account because they forgot we are on stolen land, actually

I think this opinion piece is quite emblematic of what we around these parts have come to call "Woke 1", i.e social justice practiced primarily as an extension of left-wing academic discourse, with all the issues and limitations that implies.

It's a relic of bygone age, unfit for the present moment
I find takes like this unsatisfying because they ignore the point of the Nazi analogy. It's not about denying America's history of racist terror. "Nazi" is not just code for "bad but in a way that specifically doesn't implicate US antecedents." www.bostonglobe.com/2026/01/26/o...
Don’t look to Germany for an analogy. The Minneapolis nightmare is uniquely American. - The Boston Globe
In order to defeat the white nationalism that is at the core of ICE’s assault on American democracy, we have to see it and treat it as what it is.

"Senile old Trump!" we laughed! "The decaying and necrotic president!" we mocked! And yet all this time, he was actually fighting a secret battle against the Leviathan, one that has taken a toll on both his mind and body, to stop him from destroying the world.

We should all be ashamed of ourselves.
a not insignificant number of people on Threads seem to believe the snow storm was The Government's attempt to refreeze the Leviathan, the world-eating serpent, which was getting loose (to eat the world, I assume)

I can't put into words the feeling of watching our government, a hive of evil antisocial filth, the absolute worst humanity has to offer, colliding with the best. Ordinary people trying to help each other, risking everything to stand up for what's plainly, unambiguously fair and right. It's unreal

I think this is a combination of the fact that it already happened once, making it a pattern, and that there's no way to spin this as anything but an execution.

Much like the Geneva Convention, nonviolence is often mistaken as a product of naive idealism when it is in fact very very much the product of clear-eyed pragmatism.
leftists love to throw "nonviolence won't protect you!!" at liberals. but they misunderstand. nonviolence isn't about protecting yourself. nonviolence doesn't mean nonconfrontational.

nonviolence. is. about. winning.

american history has been a push and pull between these forces and it is neither unprecedented that the state would be captured by those that want to impose a racial hierarchy at the barrel of a gun and it would not be unprecedented for us to turn the guns around on them
Thesis: ICE is un-American and the Minneapolis protestors are real Americans.

Antithesis: Ackshually ICE is operating in a long American tradition of racist terror.

Synthesis: Minneapolis is now the epicenter of a clash between two distinct but historically grounded American political traditions.
