“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace” is, I fear, a sentence future kids may be made familiar with in history lessons.

Multi-layered “look what you made me do” lie.

Because Norway didn’t give a him prize (it doesn’t decide winners) for ending wars (he didn’t end) the US won’t be peaceful anymore (bombing multiple countries) and will take Greenland (part of Denmark, not Norway) to stop Russia (it’d help Russia).

Counterpoint: they should also be saying "this is stupid and absolutely super duper illegal and anyone who goes along with it is going to prison"
the only thing Democrats should be saying on Greenland is "this is evil and wrong and if we do it we will be punished"
like do i trust bernie would oppose the annexation? yes. do i think this is good messaging that is what EU allies need? no

This as not just a post, but a formal diplomatic demarche to European govts? Thinly veiled threat of US military aggression against ally (for now) Denmark? I really hope Europe is waking up to the threat they face

We need to cure people of the idea that they are Reasonable and Serious as long as they can locate themselves between two poles. Very few things are a spectrum as opposed to an archipelago of possible positions with only incidental relationships, and you have to make the argument for yours

Once again reiterating that to be concerned about immigration is to be a gigantic fucking loser.
i simply don't think we need ICE and do not care how someone showed up in whatever place they happen to live.

Half the battle with this guy is just reiterating government can and already does good things that are so ubiquitous they’ve become invisible. He’s able to remind you in a way that you understand that good government can exist outside of a 24/7 vengeance operation, and in NYC already does.

The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

Again reminded of standing in the middle of my hometown one Saturday during the 2016 EU referendum politely trying to disagree with a Brexit-voting woman who kept saying "how can things get any worse?" - like... please have some imagination, I'm begging you
Fundamentally the lesson American voters took from Trump I and Stop the Steal is that Worse Things Aren't Possible imo
The North Atlantic Treaty was, to be fair, on the ballot in 2016, ‘20, and ‘24 and a decadent voting public made some horrible choices.

Bessent making it clear selling Greenland is a euphemism for Europe declaring itself a vassal continent.
WELKER: Is Greenland or NATO more vital to natl security?

BESSENT: That's obviously a false choice

W: Not to European leaders

B: They will come around & understand they need to be under the US security umbrella. What would happen in Ukraine if the US pulled support? The whole thing would collapse

Just finished this right after having read @hofrench.bsky.social's Second Emancipation, and it convinced me that the African & African diaspora anti-colonial thinkers of the 1940-1975 period constituted one of the great intellectual movements in the history of humankind.

Second Enlightenment level.
We think of the postwar world order as having been built by the US. But as Getachew makes clear, that world order was completed by the intellectual giants of the African, pan-African and African diaspora liberation movements.

It is no coincidence Trump & Miller are targeting its fundamental tenet.

No. Because there is no global majority. India, China, Brazil, and Nigeria really don’t have any more similarities in their foreign policy goals between each other than any one of them does to the EU.
If we hadn't been complicit on Palestine; if we hadn't appeased Trump on Venezuela, might the Global Majority have stood alongside Europe, with all of us stronger, on Greenland?

Congress can stop ICE. Congress can block the use of force in Greenland. In other words, in this crisis, Congress can act to support civil liberties at home and free nations abroad. To fail to act would be to be complicit in a dreadful outcome.

Trump is actually Hitler they govern the same lazy way.

He does not understand the act of either governing or let alone legislating. He understands only vague "decrees" that are not laws but only vague intent directives the lower ranks are encouraged to work towards bsky.app/profile/ixs....
Even better: How does Trump think setting tariffs on specific members of the single market works?

Hello? Yeah, please ship the stuff not to our German warehouse but instead to our Polish transshipment warehouse? Yeah. 10% cheaper that way.
