If you ask me, I don’t care how much of a “Product of his time” Isaac Newton was. It’s still fucked up that he kept asking “What is gravity” without ever bothering to ask “How is gravity”

PBS taught me English, so... a lot of feelings today.

But it's also an important reminder: people talk about how the next administration will fix things, but what Trump and Co. are doing right now will take generations to undo.

We can't just sit passively - it's about fighting from every angle.

I'm putting together a piece about how much investigative journalism actually costs. If you are an investigative journalist and you're willing to share (not for attribution) what you make and how many hours (years!) you put in, my DMs are open. Estimates fine, just want to get a sense of it.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

I've been vocal in saying groups like the ADL are much too quick to label all anti-Zionism as necessarily antisemitism, and I will continue to say so. But if you want to see why many Jews instinctively feel like criticisms of Zionism are antisemitism, look at this. www.i24news.tv/en/news/inte...

A really sad follow-up to this story — Alexis Erlinmeyer, one of the trans federal intelligence workers who was fired, has died of a pulmonary embolism. She was 31. Her family is burying her under her deadname, so friends are fundraising for an accurate memorial: www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-...
NEW—In late Feb, Chris Rufo published leaked chats between queer/trans employees at US intel agencies. Then Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said she’d fire all involved.

I spoke to chat members who were fired, are on admin leave, and who kept their jobs about the new lavender scare:

You could make a compelling argument that of all the rookie quarterbacks we've gotten a chance to see play, Sanders was the least NFL ready (behind Dart, Ward, Shough, Gabriel, Leonard and Ewers). Leonard and Ewers were drafted later.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was because people didn't leave twitter at random times - the privacy, minority, leftist and academic communities (e.g., public policy and history) arrived en masse early on.

Those are disproportionately in-the-thick-of-it groups right now.
okay so here's a different graph that is interesting. if we look at negative sentiment posts by the age of the account, there is a significant uptick in negative sentiment posts coming from "elder" accounts. this chart here is looking at the past 3 days.

My dad didn't like The Holdovers because the characters go to the Massachusetts-area restaurant The Chateau, but it didn't look like The Chateau did when the film takes place.

He and my mom used to go there on dates.
#FilmSky, a quick question; what is the pettiest thing you have had to be annoyed at a film? I ask because I am watching The Gift from 2000, and the main character does divination with Zener Cards, which are not the same thing as Tarot at all. Why go for a more boring looking option?
