Indian state govt: We don't want to build new coal power plants, because they are more expensive than renewables plus batteries.

US federal govt: Take my money and keep those expensive, polluting coal plants running.
The Indian state of Rajasthan produces more solar than any other. It has rejected a 3.2 GW coal power plant, because the bids to build it were more expensive than bundling renewables with batteries.

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges.

But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.

This is great.

I have to say, the most astonishing part of the past 3-4 years for me has been watching people who REALLY DO think it is important to live life based on data and evidence COMPLETELY IGNORE data and evidence because of that “want to feel normal” thing.

We need to have a better appreciation of math. People were lamenting that one billion more was spent online on Black Friday than last year.

We have 347 million people here. So, people spent $2.88 more per person. With tariffs and inflation, it's very likely that people got less things this year.
