New England's long, regional nightmare is over. A six-year old finally gets to see a Patriots Super Bowl appearance.

Republicans and conservative Democrats thwarting Obama on closing Gitmo (but Obama mostly doing it anyway) resulted in people getting mad at Obama about Gitmo instead of mad at the Republicans and conservative Democrats. Kind of a problem!
i think obama's near-success at closing gitmo (down to 42 detainees in 2016 from about 700) after every NDAA post-2009's required him to keep it open is a pretty good example. passive-aggressively finding workarounds to close it while remaining absolutely silent essentially worked.

One of these days I just want a reporter to ask "Are you aware of anything that is going on in the government?"
Q: You recognize the threat of Russia, nevertheless Donald Trump has nominated Putin as a member of the Board of Peace for Gaza. Any reaction?

MIKE JOHNSON: I've not dug into the details of that. It's not within our purview. I'm not the one to answer the details on that.

I can’t be over emphasized that the median voter is not merely uneducated, they are *actively* wrong because they purposefully ignore new information and find attempts to educate them to be condescending.

Kinda funny that Trump thinks "asylum" means other countries send people from insane asylums, and a) this is real life, not a ham-handed Idiocracy-type satire, b) he has surely been corrected several times but is incapable of updating his priors, & c) most media politely agree not to mention it.

Beyond the fact that this bugfuck insane letter was written and sent to the leader of Norway, the State Dept agreeing to distribute it to other heads of state instead of objecting and honorably resigning or at the very least planning some kind of coverup is a sign of deep institutional collapse.
So this is why Trump is fixated on Greenland. Vengeance strikes again. This guy is dangerous.

the credibility of the federal govt is currently dogshit on this, so for as long as we have real elections in blue states and cities, there's basically no incentive whatsoever to unwind any sanctuary policies. we'll continue to have a dysfunctional patchwork of grey areas that trap people in limbo.

Republicans control all 3 branches of government. Even when they don't, both parties pump out constant rhetoric about "real Americans" living in rural areas.

The entire premise of this article is a conservative-fluffing myth. Cities have more political power because that's where most people live!

I definitely have not gone this far but I have become significantly more paternalistic in some regards. Specifically with media. The media is more democratic and efficient than ever before in giving people what they want. It has been a disaster.
I will say that Trump has really shaken my belief in democracy. I'm not totally convinced that suffrage should be universal
