The end-all-be-all take on Abundance: 1/n

An Abundance movement quickly formed around the book that seemed more interested in backing the moderate establishment wing in intra-Democratic party fights than they were in the book itself. (i.e. Ritchie Torres, Matt Yglesias, etc.)
I like The Diplomat because I’m a sucker for political thrillers and dramas, but the central conspiracy is treated *so lightly* when it would literally be casus belli for world war 3

This is correct and is also why Senator Mark Meeks must be run out of Oregon

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

This idea is worse than the Dems just caving and reopening the govt for nothing. It would actively, perhaps wildly, benefit republicans.
"A development that appeared to break the logjam: Republicans proposed that healthcare funding be provided directly to households rather than used to pay for a 1-year extension of ACA subsidies. That involves sending federal money into FSAs instead of insurance companies" www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Republicans Pitch Alternative to ACA Extension to End Government Shutdown
A proposal by GOP senators to send money directly to consumers’ health accounts rather than to insurance companies showed signs of breaking a stalemate on negotiations.

Based on a new filing with the 1st Circuit by blue states describing operational chaos in the SNAP program caused by the extreme bad faith of the Trump Regime, you may want to spend SNAP money now (low confidence). If you are in Wisconsin, you should do so immediately (higher confidence)

Watching people on here get heated as they try to talk about a big idea that’s very cleanly, but not very fully, laid out in a short book, because one of them read the book and the other didn’t.

This post is about either communism or abundance.

The Oregon plan of “get this money to people’s Oregon Trail Cards immediately and damn the torpedos” was clearly correct. I don’t think there is a mechanism to claw that back.
The Supreme Court granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments.

$1.4B kicker in Oregon next tax season. Just the single dumbest thing we do. Literally no other state does this!

One thing I’ve “enjoyed” about the shiva tradition this week is the torn black ribbon I’ve been wearing. A lot of people have recognized it. A sign to the world to be gentle with me.

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

OR lawmakers should be paid enough that we don’t need to settle for a “short session” every other year! That’s a bad way to run a government!
ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

AneriCorps was the closest thing we had, it was an amazing program, especially their CCC analog. It enjoyed bipartisan support for decades. Then Trump and the Republicans killed it.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

Idk man it just feels like the wheels are gunna fall off this thing soon.

It feels like the engines of this plane on fire, we’re on a glide path that’s turning into a dive.

And yet the car is still rolling, we’re still airborne??

The words “liberal”, “neoliberal”, “leftist”, and “socialist” losing all of their policy and economic intonations and becoming solely in/out-group social signifiers is very bad! It leaves us with a smaller vocabulary and less of an ability to actually talk about policy. Maybe that’s for the birds

If Oregon has a legislative victory next year proportional to Virginia’s today, Democrats would hold 44 seats.

This would flip seats in Scappoose, Dallas, Medford, Coos Bay, and Canby.
virginia (harris+6) is set to have a larger democratic majority than oregon (harris +14) in their state house after tonight, if you want a sense for how next year might look for the legislature

Tonight was important because the Trump regime has acted as if a 1.5% win gave them the Mandate of Heaven. This was the first election since the presidential, and across the nation people showed up to prove that no such mandate exists. Also because our parks department needed the $

We must run this asshole out of office. There are some things that if you do them, it has to be the end of your career. Or else the entire political infrastructure breaks.
so yeah if SEIU wanted to fund a big budget primary against mark meet you pretty much could not imagine a better year for it
