"Oil demand and emissions in the transport sector fell by 5% in the third quarter, but grew elsewhere by 10%, as the production of plastics and other chemicals surged."

#China is cutting oil demand in transport. Has that ever happened in Western countries?

Analysis: China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months - Carbon Brief
China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were unchanged from a year earlier in the third quarter of 2025, extending a flat or falling trend that started in March 2024.

e.g., What renewable/clean technologies qualify for a tax credit? What counts as innovative under the loan program? Who is eligible for a home energy retrofit tax credit? Do oil and gas companies need to reduce methane leakage on public lands? Is environmental justice a priority?

Note how all the fossil fuel requirements in Inflation Reduction Act were written into statute, like it literally says six lease sales in the Cook Inlet over 10 years.. and most of the renewable energy and climate implementation in the IRA relied on rule-making and agency discretion.
These lease sales are required under the Big Beautiful Bill. The last Cook Inlet sale in 2022 was mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act; that one was overturned under the national environmental policy act. Now we’ll see what happens with a weaker NEPA. www.marinelog.com/offshore/boe...

The IRA locked in fossil fuel leasing by statute in with very detailed specificity, but left the clean energy provisions mostly at the mercy of agency interpretation and regulation… even the tax credits and loans only work if Treasury/Energy decides it qualifies.

News coverage of this has focused on the pardon of those involved in the fake electors plot.

But the pardon also extends to key figures who participated in the unauthorized breach of voting systems in Coffee County, Georgia

it's sort of interesting to me that the current debate on the New Right over on the other site is essentially how to co-opt the more radical wing of the movement without the bad optics

i don't think this is good, tbh

Trying to do back of the envelope math on who might be the Republicans who vote on extending subsidies. Democrats need 13 votes.

Likely yes:
Collins
Murkowski
Tillis
Rounds

Maybe:
Capito
Cassidy
Hawley

Don’t forget how incompetent MAGA actually is. These dingdongs have made countless idiotic errors & lawless choices that are stupendously unpopular. Their attempt to redistrict themselves into permanent power seems destined to backfire too.

Stay strong friends. We’re going to win

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

The latest update on conditions inside Broadview's ICE facility, where a magistrate judge is planning a visit this week.

The Trump administration says it's "compliant" with an order to provide phone services so detainees may communicate with counsel.

Plaintiffs "continue to have concerns."

except for rooftop solar, which Newsom has been a foe of and which will come back to bite CA on the ass especially with data center expansion.
California is here for the long haul.

While the Trump Administration makes this country unrecognizable, California remains a stable, reliable partner in the fight for a clean energy future.

I have come to believe this as well. The list is too strange. I don’t think a majority wanted to cave, but many more than the 8.
I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.

It’s a ruse.

The DNC Chair stands with House Dems to block this deal.

As always, it's feckless leadership and cowardice in the Senate that fucks everything up.
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.

And if you think that transgender people - or any other oppressed minority group - are an acceptable minority to sacrifice for the sake of power, then you should not have that power. Ever.

The problem isn't "purity tests". The problem is politicians who do not give a shit about us. We deserve more.
