The Trump-Vance mass deportation plans are sickeningly extreme. Most Americans don't support them and Dems have room to go on offense on this. Ad by me and the geniuses I am incredibly lucky to work with at Way to Win, production by Conexión. (both not on here yet)
One of our Christmas Day traditions is to put this on with Christmas music. If I can persuade the amp to do this.

Love this. I held back a bit on some my grievances this year, not a mistake I will make in 2026!
It's Festivus, so I'm going to air some grievances.

1. If you're going to write a year end story about how scientists responded to authoritarianism and *NOT* include @standupforscience.bsky.social in the write up or cite that the photo you used as your header is from one of our rallies...that's bs.

I’m about sign off to go shop (for food! Presents are sorted) but just read this and the equally jaw dropping @radleybalko.bsky.social ICE story. The group chat consensus of Dems is to avoid or (somehow) move right on this. But the iceberg is sitting right there. We can still steer away from it.
Now that Bari Weiss pulled a segment telling the truth about Trump's deportations to let Stephen Miller have his say (i.e. spread propaganda), it's a good time to check out our deep dive into Miller's real worldview and agenda, which doesn't pull any punches:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Dark Plot to Build a MAGA Terror State
He is descended from Russian Jews—you know, the kind of people who were once denounced as alien and unassimilable. Today, his project is to unleash government persecution of those he deems alien and u...

That a WaPo investigation cites Amazon Prime as a metaphor for abuse is a tiny hopeful sign for me. Maybe the shackles on expression under Bezos are not quite as tight as we fear.
Another example of why "just unsubscribe from the Post" is not always the most helpful frame for how to respond to the enshittification of legacy media.

Support indie journalism, for sure. But this stuff is valuable and *expensive.* I don't want to abandon the people that do this work.
WaPo reports that ICE is planning 7 massive human warehouses holding 5,000 to 10,000 people.

Recalls the acting ICE director 2015 statement that he wanted to see a “business”-oriented approach to deportations, “like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings”.

hard agree
Political and corporate spokespeople now regularly treat a request for comment from the mainstream media as an opportunity to drop a free ad into the middle of the story. Bad faith non-responses should just be discarded, with a note that they declined to respond to the substance of the question.
WH spokesperson Abigail Jackson said "60 Minutes should spend their time and energy amplifying the stories of Angel Parents, whose innocent American children have tragically been murdered by vicious illegal aliens that President Trump are removing from the country."

Everyone in the government that was involved in sending American people to the CECOT concentration camp must go to prison.

Prison. There must be consequences. Starting with Kristi Noem.
Yes, CECOT is a concentration camp in the guise of a prison. The Venezuelans were the first people to *ever* be released from CECOT since Bukele opened the prison in January 2023. Seriously. The first.
These are concentration camps. No other way to describe them. Truly horrific, and none of it surprising in the least.

This is all completely insane!!
The US State Department is now going to be deporting people and/or revoking visas over Benz, Taibbi, and Shellenberger’s “censorship industrial complex” hoax.

Let that sink in. This is what the Twitter Files pretext was actually about. Water boys for authoritarians.

Breathtaking amounts of absurd, bald faced, open corruption.
Overall, this big @nytimes.com investigation identified $500m+ that was donated to Trump-backed groups AFTER the election from 346 donors.

It found that more than half of the donors have benefited in some way from actions by Trump or his administration. (gift link)

Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”
