omg, thank YOU for mentioning we mentioned that. I was at the speech and left the building with the worst feeling. My friends tried to reassure me but I felt this blanket of doom, from a lot of things. But that was part of it.

completely with you that the ACA is a ridiculous POS and we should set the whole thing on fire and start over. and part of the problem w/ the shutdown strat was it didn't address the ICE. i want a summit of blue state govs to talk federal tax escrow to stop that.

whoa. that actually tracks. i didn't either, but i have some dumb luck personality/life experience advantages that resulted in me being less of a bullshitter. inc. working for people who don't put up with it.

i think having gone through a phase of doorknocking would help them out too.

I have no idea who said this first but I'm trying to make fetch happen, I think it's a thing people need to understand. It throws off all the usual negotiating concepts like BATNA. If your opponent is willing to set fire to the negotiating table, it's not a negotiation, it's arson prevention.

I don't prioritize winning the narrative over stopping people from going hungry and I don't think Dems should either. And we could choose to still win the narrative, but we're not, because we're all choosing to be stupid about it.

Oh god, it sounds like I agree with you. Ugh/lol.
Unpopular shutdown take: something like this result was probably baked in from the start, trying to fight was the right thing to do anyway, and Dems don't suck. Shutdown politics always favor Rs due to nihilists' advantage. They've never given half a shit if people starve before, they didn't now.

Having talked to rather a lot of them over the last year, you are not wrong. The median Dem voters’ information environment is in better shape than the paint fumes the DC dems are freebasing in their group chats.

63 trillion posts about how Dems suck, we need to primary all of them, the party sucks, they caved, yadda yadda ad inifnitum. I'm fine to primary all of them just out of spite for letting it get this bad. It was always going to be steeply uphill, but they did fight, and we need more of that.

spooked them. One of them could have found some shred of compassion or intelligence. Someone could have died. You never know. But what's happening now, is instead of the story that "Dems fought, and Republicans are assholes who don't care if you starve," instead we are getting
November 10, 2025 at 4:10 PM
This time they even innovated, they came up with a whole new fucked up and illegal plan to pit the hungry vs people who pay insurance. While blaming immigrants. But it was the right thing to do to fight anyway, because going in, you don't know what's going to happen. The election results could have
