When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for a pluralistic society to reject the inherent biases of a system built on oppression, genocide, and exclusion, uncomfortable truths must be faced.

It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.

I went to college for criminology and I remember a professor shutting this shit down so fast when someone tried it by saying "Nope, there are only two types of people who ever need to care about this distinction: the people committing the crimes and the lawyers involved in those cases, THAT'S IT"
I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Most people interested in teaching others do so by affirming the truth of some subject, while others simply model the worst of humanity and expect you to learn that their behavior is justified because shitty people exist.

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Over the past 20 years, there is not a single major US newspaper that consistently told the truth about:

* The rise of US fascism
* The relationship between police racism and innocent Black folk

US News frames the world from the view of the violent minority, but expects the majority to subscribe.
A stat we don't talk about enough: Newspapers have lost 77% of their jobs over the last 20 year, more than any of the 532 other industries tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
