...why?
People keep saying that AI is inevitable. Like Bartleby, I'd prefer not to... We "have to use it!" My response to that is simply... WHY? Why is it being pushed so much and into so many things? Once you've gotten people to cede their decision making to an algorithm, eventually they'll stop thinking for themselves. Why would I outsource thinking for myself to a machine? I have a brain.

It feels like there are AI snakes on every plane sometimes Two Snakes: you must use it! You must! MUSSSSSST! Another Snake: "We need your fresh data!" Chorus of Snakes: "Feed us! Feed us!" Writing isn't just writing, it's thinking through ideas. Finding language to describe your experience. Putting your thoughts into words. Add some drawings, we got a comic stew going, baby. The creative process is an adventure just waiting for you to discover it (a little pink frog travels through a landscape on his adventure) It's up to YOU to go on a journey within yourself. (The little pink frog is holding a map, all destinations are "you") A plausibility generator/plagiarism machine can't help you with that. (The frog rejects the robot)

2025 was one of the worst years of my life, I lost my job of 16 years in February (I'm still looking for a new one, if you know of any design/comms jobs), so while 2025 still sucks, my art has gotten a chance to grow and for that, I am incredibly grateful for the time #ArtvsArtist #ArtvsArtist2025

A little frog in a jacket, boots and scarf builds a snow friend, there are eight drawings of the frog as the snow ball gets bigger and bigger and eventually there's a snow pal that looks like the frog, there's also a little webbed branch bc a spider has helped make the snow frog webbed branch hands

I'd argue it's worse than a blank page, in the same way that garment pieces cut slightly off the grain are worse than not having cut yet.

When a thing is wrong, it will suck your energy into making it Less Wrong, which is often not the same as making it right.

Just a thing about this: a common statement in writing is that you can fix crap, but you can't fix a blank page.

I have heard AI apologists claim that this is why it's fine to generate a first draft.

Now, to be clear, fuck this.

But also: an AI draft is a fucking blank page.

I know I don’t talk about writing much. It is because I am writing so slowly.

But I want you to know that I am taking a part of this story that absolutely sucked and took me months to produce four of the worst chapters I have ever written and in the edit I figured out how to fix it.
