Ta-da! My new book, The Notwitches: Prison Break, is out NOW! Huge thanks to all at @chickenhousebooks.bsky.social, Dotty Sutton for her brilliant artwork and my wonderful agent @rachelpmann.bsky.social. And of course big thanks to everyone who buys it, which you can do here: garypanton.co.uk/books/
Attempted to watch BBC's Lord of the Flies adaptation and had a properly visceral reaction to the horrible kids. Which I guess means it's doing a good job of emulating the book, as I hated that for the same reason.

This is honestly such a good film.

Anyone found any simple way of knowing what's going to be shown on TV from the Winter Olympics and when? Or is it just hour after hour of jumbled free-for-all?

I tried to take a photo of a grasshopper on my windshield, but now it looks like a gigantic bug destroying the town.

I used to work a place that had a wearhouse with lights that worked off of movement sensors.

To be clear. You couldn't turn the lights on or off.

They came on when they sensed movement and went off when movement stopped...

True, it's been awful.

Tonight's ice dancing mainly reminding me how much I hate a medley. Just pick a song and stick with it.

Often feel with a lot of the ice dancers that if they weren't doing this there's a good chance they'd be stage magicians.

I switched to decaf tea and coffee a few years ago and I can't taste or feel any difference, to the extent that it slightly makes me wonder if caffeine even really exists.
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Yay! The gimps all got off the train at Edinburgh.
Boo! Some new, worse, noisier gimps got on the train at Edinburgh.

Hooray! Thank you! 🥳

Been searching for that link that went viral a couple of years ago where people on Reddit (I think) were having a full-blown argument about how ages work. Someone was insisting that from the moment you turn one year old you're actually two, and so on. Anyone know the one I mean?

It really doesn't help that @lner.co.uk's signage is so weak. They could have signs on the back of every seat spelling out that in this part of the train you should use headphones, not takes calls and keep your voice down. Instead, they just have these above the windows. "Quieter" than what?
February 9, 2026 at 1:57 PM
And someone's made an almighty mess of the toilet cubicle too. Seriously how difficult is it, as a human, to flush a toilet, tidy up after yourself and be quiet?
February 9, 2026 at 1:27 PM
On the quiet coach on the train so OF COURSE there's a woman watching a video without headphones in front of me, a guy talking on his phone across from her and a couple having a seemingly endless top-of-the-voice conversation opposite me. Genuinely the world's worst people.

Sometimes in coffee shops I really just want to ask for a hot frothy milk but I'm not sure if it's socially acceptable for an adult so I just don't.

I know no one cares about other people's dreams so this is just for me really, but I have a weirdly high number of dreams about big cats so I've decided I want to have a thread that keeps track of them. Last night's featured me on a golf buggy being chased across a golf course by an African lion.

Incidentally, I'll be back in London for a longer visit next month and would love to sign books in a few indies. If you're involved with a London bookshop and would like a visit, please do reach out! My DMs are open.

Popped into Waterstones on Torrington Place in London to ask if they'd like me to sign any of my books, and by some form of terrifying witchcraft they'd already been signed! (Signed copies also available in Waterstones Tottenham Court Rd and Foyles, BTW).

the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style
MY KIDS: so why are there muppets in the AUDIENCE

ME: THE CONCEIT!! IS THAT THEY'RE PUTTING ON A VARIETY SHOW!!! IN A WORLD WHERE MUPPET AND HUMAN COEXIST!!! YOU ARE WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY!! FILMED!! IN REAL TIME!!!

Want to know a stupid thing I did? Back in 2006, when I first moved from Scotland to England, I threw out at least two perfectly good kettles because I didn't know what limescale was and I thought there was something wrong with them.
