I've had this conversation many times recently. It's great that the AFL has a policy of zero tolerance for homophobic speech on the field, but that only goes so far. If the gay AFL players can't be out, it smacks too much of 'don't ask, don't tell.'
Just because no one is mentioning it, apropos the Rankin, Snoop situation, statistically there must be a number of gay men playing AFL at the highest level.
That this shit continues just makes it ever more likely that they can never come out.
