It's in print! My opinionated dive into the definition of "coevolution" is officially out in the December issue of @journal-evo.bsky.social

Don't ask “when is it coevolution?”—ask “how?”
Abstract. Coevolution has come to be widely understood as specific, simultaneous, reciprocal adaptation by pairs of interacting species. This strict-sense

the president is not popular. the civil society-based opposition is very real. the vibes and stories out there are not appreciably different than 2018; it’s the media environment that has decidedly shifted/balkanized.

Congrats @jeffgroh.bsky.social et al. Some avocado trees open female-phase flowers in the morning & then male in afternoon. Others show complementary pattern (m->f), to synchronize pollination of two types. Jeff show this to be a >45Mya polymorphism at a transcription factor across 100s of species.
Balanced polymorphism in a floral transcription factor underlies an ancient rhythm of daily sex alternation in avocado https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2025.12.22.695989v1

Sir Terry Pratchett is best understood as one of the most interesting, deeply ethical practical (I would say Pragmatist but I cede to actual experts) philosophers of the late 20th Century who just happened to work in deconstructed fantasy literature as his medium.

Finally, NOAA SPC has indicated for rare third day in a row that risk of severe thunderstorms continues along CA coast as well as Sac. Valley. Additional strong wind gusts & torrential downpours in squall lines is greatest risk, but brief tornadic spin-ups remain possible. #CAwx

In fact, NOAA WPC has characterized today's flash flood risk in SoCal as "moderate" (level 3 of 4). This still indicates notably elevated risk; although flash flooding would be more isolated today vs Wed, it could be just as serious especially given now saturated soils.

Although atmospheric river portion of CA storm has ended, a much colder & unstable/sheared airmass will continue to bring Intermittent waves of strong to severe t-storms--w/widespread strong wind gusts, scattered flash flood/isolated tornado potential, plus heavy mtn snow. #CAwx

It is EXHAUSTING not only being made responsible for coming up with new kinds of assignments for our students; it's also tedious reading op-eds that suggest the core problem is a crisis in teaching. But, as Chris and I lay out here, this isn't a crisis in teaching; it's an attack on learning.
