Two trials will be repeated endlessly despite always producing the same results:

1) Does UBI work? (yes)
2) Does AI improve productivity? (no)
M365 Copilot fails to up productivity in UK government trial
: AI tech shows promise writing emails or summarizing meetings. Don't bother with anything more complex

Would you rather have new convenient transit access to the wonderful restaurants and shops in Burnaby Heights, or to a station that's already served by SkyTrain?

The choice is yours!

important to reiterate from time to time:

"artificial intelligence" does not exist.

there is no sentient artificial being. no threepio. no demerzel. no terminator.

what the tech publicists call "a.i." is just big, crappy databases and mindless and often incorrect autocorrect.

If people actually cared about art and artists, they'd be fighting for Universal Basic Income. That's what would actually stop us all getting burnt out.
No, authors aren't burnt out because "writing without AI is slow"

We're burnt out because we're paid dirt so we need day jobs to survive

Let's send the exclusive-right-of-way TRANSIT to the neighborhood that developed the way it did because of exclusive-right-of-way TRANSIT!

Burnaby Heights became what it is because of transit. To detour transit around it because businesses don't want it would be completely antithetical 🤦🤥
The future North Shore Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will span 21 km with 16-17 stations, connecting the North Shore, Vancouver, and Burnaby. This rapid transit service will be fast, reliable, and comfortable.

🚌 We need better transit NOW, not another bridge in 10+ years. Queue jumps, extended bus lanes, and more frequent service can move people faster TODAY.

Read Michael Hall's great piece explaining why improving existing transit is our best immediate solution:

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

“if governments keep showing such disregard for workers’ fundamental rights, we shouldn’t be surprised if workers start showing more disregard for government [back to work] orders”

The moment the union defied back to work orders was when power was truly shifted back to the workers and Air Canada realized they were screwed, forcing them back to the bargaining table.

If employers expect the government to step in every time a strike happens, they'll never bargain in good faith.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context*

Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when

An LLM just generates text
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

The moral panic of the anglosphere over bus fare evasion and proof-of-payment is quite something.

Especially when you think that we do accept another mobility-related widespread PoP system: on-street parking, which is entirely charged via a proof-of-payment + inspector system.
Correct. Swallowed up by the panic over fare evasion.

IBX travel times reduced to 32 minutes, down from 40 min for a 22 km line, which is pretty fast. all thanks to the decision to tunnel a short distance that was street-running.

ridership projection increased by 50,000 per day.

and people will still say that "travel times don't matter". they do!
Here's the latest IBX rendering as Gov. Hochul announces a major milestone in moving this project forward. I like the New York blue cars. This station will be a transfer point between the IBX and the D and N trains, which you can see in the background.
