There were “repeated attempts” from the TTC since Monday to get a satisfactory explanation from Metrolinx.

The TTC didn’t get one they were satisfied with enough to reassure the public the line is safe until Wednesday, after headlines went up that the opening date was again called into question.

Scathing. And throughout all this infighting and finger pointing, riders are left behind. All we want is transit that works!

Steve Munro appreciation post!! Thank you for everything that you do advocating for better transit. The TTC would be much worse off without your advocacy, and our work would be so, so much harder.

We’re looking forward to many more years of collaborating, scheming and fist shaking! ❤️❤️❤️

Objectively good news indeed @ttcriders.bsky.social !

But the City also committed to installing the bike lanes on Eglinton once the LRT opened (after postponing the work back in the fall).

No more delays. This spring Toronto needs to complete Eglinton.

Objectively good news! But we need:

We need a public inquiry to make sure future transit projects don’t face the same issues.

Assurances from Metrolinx and Crosslinx that it won’t have the same problems as Line 6.

Signal priority ASAP.

We need it to work.

Construction on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, which will operate as Line 5 Eglinton, began in 2011. It was supposed to be done in 2020.

My @thestar.com column this week: The Finch West LRT’s biggest problem isn’t signal priority. It’s not maintenance either. Instead, the biggest issue is a total lack of clear accountability.

Without fixing that, this train’s always going to struggle. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Matt Elliott: The troubled Finch West LRT has made a lot of people angry. Here’s one thing Doug Ford can do to get it back on track
Most of Finch West LRT’s troubles will likely be fixed over time, but this one problem will dog it for years.

For all the transportation boffins at Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, here's an LRT line that works. Of course the high priced help at those agencies had nothing to do with designing and building the ION system.
Some winter scenes today of an LRT that worked well in the snow.
Greetings from Kitchener-Waterloo, with its ION LRT trains running every 10 minutes, on time, with full signal priority! 1/2

Line 6 seemingly doesn't work in the snow!

While Metrolinx, the TTC, and the private consortium of companies point fingers at each other over issues with Line 6, riders are left with unreliable and broken transit.

We need a public inquiry into Line 6 and other provincial P3 transit projects!

“A fare freeze and fare capping mean riders will save money, have more predictable costs, and won’t be punished for needing to take transit frequently.

Choosing to invest in affordability sends a clear message that transit is a public service, not a luxury"

"Why does winter weather seem to throw the Finch West LRT off track?"

This demonstrates the problem with some privately-provided transit infrastructure: contracts prevent improvement because nobody is allowed to talk.

I used to buy a transit pass every month but stopped when the cost got too high and I wasn't positive I was going to use it enough.

Fare capping would encourage riders who can barely afford transit to use it more and tap every time.
Last month, Andrew tapped his PRESTO card 52 times! But he didn't buy a monthly pass, because he completely forgot. By the time he remembered, it was too late in the month for it to make sense.

Flexibility is freedom. He calls on the TTC Board to approve fare capping, for all forgetful oafs!

So we’re stuck with the same obfuscation and lack of transparency with the maintenance of these lines that we’ve had throughout construction? TTC has gotta take over the maintenance ASAP.

At the very least Mosaic and Crosslinx need to have a presence at the TTC Board to be held accountable.

New billion-dollar transit lines shouldn't get stuck for *this long* waiting at red lights.

That's why we're happy to see a motion coming to City Council this week to implement stronger transit signal priority and other measures to speed up LRTs - but it won't happen without your voice!

Y'all are giving us whiplash with all these announcements this week! This is going to make a massive difference to transit riders in Scarborough and we are thrilled!

It's also a testament to what can be accomplished without provincial meddling. Metrolinx, take note.

The Scarborough Subway extension isn’t going open until past 2030 and people would have been stuck on buses in traffic.

Now the busway will provide fast and reliable service for riders!
