In cities & towns across Canada, transit is a mover of the economy, connecting millions of people to work, school, and opportunity. The Carney government says it wants to build an economy that works for everyone, but you can’t do that while leaving transit systems underfunded and riders stranded

There is no new funding for public transit, no operating funding to ensure buses and trains continue to get people to work on time, and no commitment to double or accelerate the Canada Public Transit Fund despite Liberal MPs pledging to do so earlier this year!

Councillor @alejandrabravo.bsky.social speaks on the P3 model and how it’s a failure, and always brings projects in late and over budget. That’s what we’ve been saying!

Bunch of questions about LRT opening from @joshmatlow.bsky.social to CEO Lali. Not exactly deluge of information forthcoming. A lot of “you gotta ask Metrolinx…” 😬

Commissioner @joshmatlow.bsky.social has a motion to expand the pilot if possible. It’s showing success, buses are bunching, let’s fix this and make our transit work.
Hard to disagree!
He asks that the TTC’s Strategic Planning Committee look into it.

The item passed unanimously! Now onto an update on the city’s bunching and gapping pilot.
Bunching and gapping is consistently one of the top concerns among transit riders. We’re a bit concerned about the results of this pilot and whether it’s working as effectively as it should be.

@joshmatlow.bsky.social reminds us that previous administrations would preformatively add more police officers to just stand around in case something happens. We know this isn’t the solution and a holistic, compassionate, non-enforcement approach will benefit everyone.

@alejandrabravo.bsky.social speaks to this and says that a reliable system is a key aspect of safety, as is having TTC staff visible, people around make you feel safe. Not being stranded at a stop waiting for a bus thats 20 minutes late makes you feel safer. We’re glad to hear that acknowledged.

The report call for expansion of programs like Streets to Homes, Toronto Community Crisis Services, and Loft Multi-Disciplinary Outreach Teams, embodying a compassionate, non-police approach.

Safety on public transit has gotten much better in recent years, with all kind of security incidents going down across the board. The trouble is that public perception of safety isn’t catching uo fast enough. Simply put, safety is better but people still don’t feel safe.

The safety plan includes a lot of recommendations from our 2023 report ‘“Whose Safety?” Investing in a Safer TTC for All’ — and relies on a compassionate, non enforcement based approach to safety on transit. You can find our report here:
