Join us Sun Nov 16 4:30pm at Queen's Park (South Lawn) for the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. We are holding it at QP for the second year in a row because our govt continues to wage war on road safety, guaranteeing more violent death and devastation from car crashes.

Bike lanes are a proven traffic calming measure. Yet the province wants to ban municipalities from installing new ones under Bill 60. Is it possible none of this is about solving traffic congestion or making roads safer but purely just a bad faith culture war??
Abacus Data’s new survey shows Ontarians see traffic calming features as a more effective safety tool than automated speed cameras.

Younger adults, parents and PC voters are especially supportive.

Another day, another rally. Protesting Bill 60, which will removes tenant rights, prevents traffic safety improvements, and generally thinks the Province knows
better than your local elected officials. Thanks to @cycletoronto.bsky.social, @thebikinglawyer.bsky.social and the folks who showed up.

Make no mistake. The bike lane provisions in Bill 60 are bad for Toronto. But they're WORSE for the rest of the province which to-date has been largely unscathed in Bill 212's aftermath. Kudos to @bikeottawa.bsky.social and advocates fighting back across Ontario.

Bill 212 at least pretended it would set criteria for new bike lanes. Bill 60 drops the pretense. Cycle Toronto deputed at Executive Committee to warn about the poison pill that would take power away from people and their communities and give it to cars.

Remember last year when the Ontario government promised they would "unveil a plan to work with our municipal partners around the province" to develop a "common sense, evidence-based bike lane policy"?

Here's their plan: roads are for cars.

We'll be at Executive Committee today highlighting how Bill 60 would also expand and escalate Bill 212. Controlling how municipalities plan and build their cycling networks wasn’t enough; now Queen’s Park is making explicit to Ontarians that roads are for cars.

The omnibus Bill 60 is (almost) impressive how many terrible proposals it's bundling together that will make life worse for Ontarians. And still hurting from their court defeat, Ford believes packaging it as more bikes v cars culture war is a 905 political winner.

Doug Ford’s new omnibus bill hides a major gift to corporate lobbyists: a ban on turning car lanes into bike lanes.

@desaima.bsky.social notes that the move mirrors demands from the Toronto Region Board of Trade. It won’t fix traffic—but it will keep oil companies and Uber happy.
