Bloor bike lanes again
With all the melting back over the past couple of days, the Bloor bike lanes between Lansdowne and Avenue are in much better shape. In addition, we were told that the city is trying out some new equipment more suited to clearing the bike lanes. Here is the view at Shaw, where we finally see pavement. Sadly, the block between Christie and Manning is still not cleared.

The major obstacle on this stretch has been this huge pile just west of Runnymede.

Not loving the clash of fonts in this picture. Note in particular that the large station name mimics the subway font, but the R is not consistent. It is helpful to have the street names below the station name, although I was amused that they did the same thing at Caledonia Station. #EglintonLRT

The Eglinton Crosstown AKA Line 5 finally opened today, after 15 long years since the groundbreaking back in Nov 2011. I decided to check it out from the western terminus at Mt. Dennis station. The fastest way for me to get up there was by riding to the Bloor UP/GO station, and then to take the UPX. Mt. Dennis is a new stop for the UPX.

This blog started with this post 15 years ago, on a morning that was apparently warmer than today. (It's -19°C right now) Taking a look back, you can see that the traffic on this blog has ebbed and flowed, but is probably on a downward trend. This is perhaps because I mainly promote posts on Facebook, even as people have gradually shifted to more short form social media platforms.

Bike lane snow clearance is hit or miss

When I biked into work I thought that at least some of the rest of the Bloor bike lane would be plowed. Sadly, this was not the case. Here near Lansdowne. The only section that was clear was going east from Bathurst, where TCBC volunteers had cleared the lane.

If you are looking for wool clothing made in Canada, Anián has a sale and today is the last day. I have their Melton Wool shirt and it is great. The closest thing you can get to the Kitsbow Icon shirt that is no longer made. Also the shirts are made of recycled wool. anianmfg.com

Albert and the other good folks at the Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition organized another snow clearing event, this time in the Annex over the past two days. Today, the goal was to clear the eastbound bike lanes between Brunswick and Spadina. On my way over to join, I wanted to check out the Paton Rd underpass that crosses the Davenport Diamond rail line.

Bloor bike lanes in BWV are unplowed, but between the Kingsway and Kipling they are in this weird half state where it looks like a plow went through with the blade up so that there is still lots of snow in the track. I'd describe it as "plowed but impassable". @cyclingpedestrian.cityof.toronto.ca

Digging out of the snow storm
The city hedged its bets and said that it might take several days to dig out from the record breaking snowfall yesterday. After lowering everyone's expectations, I found the main roads to be in pretty good shape. Here is Runnymede. There were even fewer cars parked than usual due to the band on on street parking on snow routes. Bloor was not too bad, but I don't understand why they were running shuttle buses since the official TTC announcement was no service on Line 2 between Kipling and Islington.

Wool socks once again
It's gotten properly cold now, and I thought that I'd update my post from 2021 about wool socks. Just to reiterate, I wear wool socks pretty much all year, and the challenge has been finding lighter weight socks for the summer season. I've tried many different brands, including Pedaled, icebreaker, smartwool, darn tough, and deFeet. As I noted before, my socks generally fail in two ways.
