Do you think Chuck Schumer actually believes this?

As some of us have been saying over and over since Larry Schwartz first started yelling about fare evasion in 7 or 8 years ago.

For many reasons, this is not a real "injury" and this is something they can think about in terms of setting up future funding rules, but have no claim to changing the terms of this long-planned disbursement retroactively. Certainly not for the reasons they've declared in court! ("NY is too woke")
NEWS: The feds have appealed Friday's TRO on the Hudson River Tunnel.

If the Second Circuit doesn't knock down the order by 1p, they say, they will have to distribute $200 million in (congressionally approved) funding "without any obvious mechanism" for getting it back if they win the case.

You’re telling me that someone who chose to pay extra money to have the license plate GONEGOGO drives like this? now I’ve seen everything

PS every other word out of this person’s mouth is “law and order” so I trust she will be voluntarily surrendering her license asap
35 of these violations were for school speed zone cameras.

Remember- the cameras have a 10 mph grace and don’t ticket unless the car is caught going 11 mph above the speed limit. Ariola is a sociopath.

Get ready for Trump Station — and there's not much Andy Byford can do about it, is there? nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/02/06/a...
Andy Byford's 'Trump Card' On Penn Station Keeps Wrecking New York's Infrastructure Projects - Streetsblog New York City
Trump's refusal to release funding for Gateway Tunnel unless officials rename Penn Station in his honor has heightened concerns about Andy Byford's plans for the nation's largest transit hub.

I actually suspect Penn Station will end up named after him anyway. Amtrak owns the station, he can order Duffy to rename it after Byford rebuilds it. But he’s trying to get Schumer to bless it with bipartisan legitimacy, and Schumer should tell Trump to bite a sidewalk.
One thing I have to say about this is that too many people, both on this website and in private group chats, are saying "we should just rename it for him now because the funding is too important and we can remove his name later."

And I have to say, no, absolutely not. Do not give in to this charade
I, too, have confirmed the legacy-laundering nomenclature negotiations vis a vis Hudson River Tunnel:

Per three sources, Trump said he’d quit interfering in the funding if Dulles and/or Penn got renamed for him.

Republicans are banking on Democrats' impulses toward good governance and their general hesitation to use maximal political pressure to hold them back from this outcome, but "starve red states of highway funding until x, y and z happens" would be the right way to go about it.
February 6, 2026 at 5:50 PM
Objectively hilarious, and a sure sign that Trump's losing his mind. Donald Trump from the early 2010s would never have suggested that something so publicly grimy as Penn Station be named after him. He's probably trying to think of Moynihan Station instead.

once you get beyond the rancid funding aspect, it really is funny to want to have penn station named after you

I didn't realize the fare evasion panic had spread to NJ Transit. This is absurd.

The resistance to proof-of-payment ticketing among commuters railroads is insane. Just making stuff up that’s doomed to fail, rather than accepting that they need to do it the way everybody in Europe does it.

I have quite literally never seen this before in Grand Central and am now dying to know the history of it. An upside-down subway map circa 1990s in tile somewhere in GCT.

Where are my transit people - anyone know more about this old subway/train map on the floor of Grand Central?

It looks so cool but the full thing didn’t appear to withstand updates to flooring over the years. I saw it out of the corner of my eye in a tucked away corner near the food concourse.

the number one impediment to emergency vehicles are the two rows of parked cars on nearly every street in the city
In response to a caller complaining about outdoor dining allegedly causing traffic, Menin says she wants to ensure the sheds don't do that or obstruct emergency vehicles.

Unclear if there's any proof they block either, since the structures take up what is usually free street parking.

They do not. This is BS NIMBY concern trolling. My kingdom for a politician that doesn't feel the need to validate lies.

RPA estimates that a 6-month delay for the Hudson Tunnel would add an additional $720M-$1.34B to project costs.

These costs are avoidable if the Trump Administration releases federal funding ASAP.

Man, the Trump Administration is just a flat-out all-around disaster for America. They're not even doing the fake BS "Infrastructure Week" this time around.
