Not me, I'm built different (unemployable)
I guess it’s everywhere but I gotta say academia is RIFE with people who feel mistreated by the system but don't realize as they accrue power that at some point they started punching down.

If Democrats release files showing that Trump was complicit in Epstein's pedophilia, and Trump tries to distract from it by starting a war with Nigeria or Venezuela, then Democrats will have blood on their hands.

If I'm laid up in bed with a head cold, at least there's much posting happening

But sir, may I point out that you’re on social media voluntarily?

I know there's bigger news, but this guy is giving one of the most dipshit speeches I've ever seen. It's like someone mixed his preworkout with his gin and then butt-chugged it into him through a MAGA culture-war funnel.
Hegseth: "We don't need to be a military of beardos anymore. Do you know how many troops claim to be Nordic Pagan? No, suddenly it's become this real fake religious affiliation inside the Pentagon where troops came to be Nordic Pagan so they can grow a beard and nobody challenges them on it."

if my kid comes home with a flier from classmates doing shit like this, I'm sending them back with fliers on pedocons
"When LifeWise...[which] allows students to leave school during the day for religious instruction, came to Ayersville...she saw it as a chance to spread the gospel. 'It’s not my kids that I worry about,” she said. 'This is their opportunity to be a light. Their mission field is the public school.'"
A program taking kids out of class for Bible study tests boundaries in public schools
LifeWise’s $35 million organization and fleet of big red buses is driving thorny questions about church and state.

the worst part is that for the people at the top "good at math"/sciencey is essentially a vibe one socially codes their way into by being minimally competent at informally discussing things actual math/science people do, unless (e.g.) Elon Musk has proven a theorem I didn't hear about.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

this is a rich text but my favorite part is that despite being presumably good at math, her husband is so illiterate that he cannot read a baby's report card

i tended bar for ages with a focus on cocktails & designing new drinks to order. by all accounts, i was pretty good at it. seems like those skills should be transferable. maybe they were for someone else, but i genuinely found barista harder & less forgiving (and guests are ruder & cheaper).
it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet
