Mark Zuckerberg et al had better hope the rest of the world doesn't ever develop a "red line" like this for U.S. social media companies, because they constantly engage in extraterritorial censorship of non-Americans

Wildly different things, tasks, techniques, subspecialties being lumped into "AI" and then being conflated with each other, doesn't help. Different types of models vs the techniques to train them vs the tasks they are supposed to accomplish, all under "AI".

This isn’t actually true. It’s clearly not the same photo. There’s also no such implication; the imagery in the dump is heavily redacted to the point where the faces on nude paintings get black boxes.

The Epstein material is confusing enough without this breathy true crime investigator nonsense.
The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

This is, of course, always where this was headed. Things will only get worse as facial recognition becomes normalized unless lawmakers ban it outright. Next up: precautionary facial surveillance of everyone, all the time, just in case (with guardrails that will also eventually be rolled back).

Again. It would be cold comfort had TikTok been sold to Someone-Awesome rather than Ellison, Kushner, and Abu Dhabi. The doctrinal damage -- which we will tie up First Amendment challenges to bad speech laws for far longer than this thing called TikTok will be around -- was already done.
As I've said before, the TikTok ban fight was never just about TikTok. It was about under what conditions the government can avoid precision-demanding constitutional scrutiny when it seeks to control editorial policies and speech. SCOTUS said a potentially pretextual other goal was OK. Our big loss.

Also could be the absolute classic; the FBI convinced a bunch of losers to do a terror attack, including informants pushing them to make plans, telling them where to buy weapons and making "connections" with "arms dealers," and helping pick the target list.
I’m finding it increasingly hard to report anything delivered by “official sources” in the US. Could be true, could be a coverup, could be completely made up for nefarious ends.

It’s a country now where no one really has any idea what’s actually going on.
